Quote:I guess you will also have to define what you mean by a load of "malarky". I am not sure I have seen a load of malarky, suppose one would know it when they see it. I think the closest I have come would be a load of dirty laundry but according to Don Henlywe WANT dirty laundry. I dont know what he has been smoking but I do not want dirty laundry. So back to the original question, ah, what was it again? Oh now, you did it....I'll be singing that song "Dirty Laundry" for the next week or so, can't get it out my head.

Quote:Quote:Like Jeffe, I just use a standard guitar, and I fret with my left hand, and I pick with my right hand. I thought about getting my guitar restrung because of course, my left hand is so dominant, and picking wise, I'd have the advantage there, but I've already learned this way...and my right hand is getting stronger anyway. I'm not sure I could play any better even if I had my guitar restrung. I've only been playing nine months or so.So you play it like a righty. Elizabeth Cotton was a lefty who played the guitar left handed without restringing--just flipped it over. Listen to her play for some fascinating licks, especially since she fingerpicked wonderfully. There are all sorts of solutions, and some are more out of the box than others. Thanks, Ed. Wasn't Elizabeth Cotton an old time blues artist? I'll confess some ignorance here.... I haven't listened to much of her stuff...I had a friend who raved about her...he played "Washington Blues" for me once....good stuff. I find that just good old practice is helping me, no matter how I play. I've been better at practicing lately.

Re: Left handed and right handed songwriters
I knew a guy who was a great singer/songwriter, and he hired me to produce his CD. I noticed he played guitar left-handed, and he said he was really right-handed. So I asked him why he played lefty, and he said that he had an accident a few years ago, and chopped off the ends of a few fingers on his left hand. The wild thing was that he took his guitar, flipped it over, and learned to play left-handed! No re-stringing or anything. And he played great. Didn't seem to affect his songwriting, singing, or guitar playing at all. Oh, I once went to one of those "California" psychologists who claimed to be a hypnotist. After a couple of sessions, he said he knew what my "problem" was. "You're really left-handed." --- No, I'm not. What a nut!Ern

Funny story about the psychologist, btw.

Quote:Shucks... I'm a lefty too,,, Which sucks... If I tell it true...I write lefty, but I eat righty which is also nice. Usually I can write a verse and feed my face without sticking the pen into my tongue. HooksThis I gotta see.....

Quote:So if my right hand was left-handed too, would I walk with a tilt?Maybe not, but you could give Rachmaninov a run for his money on the low notes.
