TAXI Member Music Listening Stations at Rally

Post by lowden2000 » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:48 pm

Hey Guys,First of all, thanks for welcoming me to the forum. This past really was the first one for me, and one of my "Post-Rally-Resolutions" is to use the amazing resource of this forum. Here is one idea I took home from the rally, maybe it will catch on. Let me know what you think:- I met many fellow members at the Rally whose music I really wanted to check out with them, and vice versa, have them check out my music, again with both people listening so we can talk about it.Here is my idea:- How about installing little listening booths around the hotel that just have a CD player (or iPod input), a headphone amp and two headphones. This way, if people want to check out each others music without bothering anybody, they can do so in a way that's less awkward than passing headphones from one person to the other or holding a computer speaker to their ear etc.Anyhow - next Rally (I'll be back!) I will bring a portable CD player, 2 headphone adaptor, and that will be my personal listening station.Again, the idea is that members have a chance to learn from each other, which happens in so many great ways at the Rally.Sorry - that was wordy!Thank you all for your support and all the best for your music making!Best,Dirk

Some folks were doing this informally while waiting in the registration line. I would imagine that enough folks have CD players and ipods with them that it would be possible to just have it be impromptu. Dave Walton had one of these:http://store.apple-touch.com/content/ac ... 3925.htmIf you had one of those, anyone with a set of ear buds could plug into your music player and hear your music, and you could have a little listening party of your own.Send your idea to TAXI so they can consider it for next year's Rally.Mazz

Hi Lowdwn200,We actually used to set up listening rooms with a bunch of boom boxes and headphones, but as iPods became popular the rooms become less so. We also had headphones walk out of there every year, so we just stopped doing it.We realized that people wanted to listen where they were and didn't want to go to the designated rooms. To put booths up all over the hotel would cost a lot of money, be hard to monitor, generate theft, require equipment take down/storage by staff late at night and year round storage when not in use. Sorry to sound negative because we DO appreciate suggestions. We just have to weigh the positives and negatives before we do them or not.thanks,Michael

Hey Mazz, Hey Michael,Thanks for the responses!Michael, I hear you. It's not really feasible for TAXI to put a bunch of equipment on the line and have it get damaged or "get lost". Too bad that happened in the past when you tried it ...Mazz, yup - thanks for the link. That little adapter would solve it. I'll bring one of those guys and a couple of extra headphones to the next Rally!Best,Dirk

Hey Taxi Administrator and Mazz; That Belkin Adapter is great, I have a dual adapter I used at my first Road Rally, never seen this one. What might be a great marketing strategy is for Taxi to contact the company to see if they would provide some of the adapters. Taxi could give them out to some passengers. maybe during the panels if their CD is picked or played. (Details worked out by Taxi)When others see and want what they have this would generate sales for Belkin, or what ever company supplies the adapter.Maybe even both Taxi's and Belkin's name could appear on the product, which would benefit both companies interest.GreatmovesBBCC, Taxi

That Belkin Adapter is good thing I might add. I was in the line and everybody want to hear my music so Mazz pulls out this adapter where about six people could listen to my music and you know what I made more friends that way as well so I will be getting one real soon! I don't think that put CD around for the whole Rally would work like what was said in one of reason that no one would go to the class.

Hey, maybe Belkin as a sponsor!! I don't know what it takes to line up sponsors, I'm sure it's a lot of work, but Belkin has a lot of accessories for iPods, etc. Maybe marketing to musicians specifically is something they hadn't thought of and they would jump on it.Sorry to possibly create more work for you Michael! You know I love you man!! Mazz
