Your single favorite Driver's Ed class OR panel...

I ended up listening to Jason Blume pretty much every time he was doing a class. He's a funny guy and so passionate about music. I learned a lot from him. And now that song "Keep Bleeding Love" is stuck in my head. Thanks Jason. I got your point, lolxoxoJ

Now I've got it in MY head too! I think I've also become a groupie. I love that there's no fluff in his classes either-- he's got a great sense of dry humor-- and every minute is packed with goodies! I swear I feel like I could be a *real* songwriter when I walk out of his classes [even though I've never written a single song in my entire life, Raags notes]. Yeah, I'll be the girl with one hit song, and no other songs ever written. Hahaha!

Hearing the original master tracks from Marvin Gaye and others, listening to them get built up one track at a time was a huge revelation to me. I finally began to get that idea of leaving space for each part and how the individual tracks might sound a little dark or light but the combination is electric. Jai Josefs and "Chord Chemistry" reminded me about things I already knew but hadn't applied... great class, as always! I wished I lived in the SF area just to be in his songwriting group. A HUGE "thank you" to whoever it was who extended the class schedule to include Sunday. I could only attend on the weekend, but because of the longer schedule and the repeated classes I got a lot in even on two fairly short days.This was my fourth Taxi rally, my first as a member, and absolutely the best ever for me. Hmm... I wonder if one has anything to do with the other.

In my Make the Most of Your Conference Connections, I recommend creating a time map for your conference experience in advance. Using the schedule of classes, and making sure you include time to eat, rejuvenate and socialize. In that way, you can make sure you get into the classes you want. And with conferences like TAXI, listing the back-up classes if you can't get into the room!I also recommend doing the buddy system, if you're at the conference with someone. Go to separate classes and take tons of notes for each other!And finally, take some time immediately after to jot down the 3 biggest insights you got and at least 3 specific actions you're going to take and most importantly - schedule those actions!BTW - if any of you missed my classes and wanted to be there, you can listen to the recordings of them online - but only if you're an Artist's EDGE Member artists-edge.com/joinYour coach,Debra

Yeah, luckily me and wife got to split up and get some notes on separate classes.. but I found that I wished I HAD mapped it out. Also, I missed Jason's melody class which KILLED me...very tough to pick a favorite. Maybe the Arrangment class if only for the percussion technique (now I'm hearing it in like EVERY recording). And runner up would be Robin's country/pop songwriting class... although my favorite panelist by FAR in terms of teaching style and personality was probably Jason. Didn't realize he was in Nashville so I'll start taking his workshops now. And as jamesm mentioned, for those that didn't make it to Rob Chiarelli's advanced production class, that was definitely a top contender. It was SOOO beyond cool for any recording geeks out there. Also they both had killer production advice. I exchnaged biz cards with someone and we're all supposed to share our collective notes on classes we missed.

good point. Many here on the boards did that last year. some amazing info was shared.somebody can start a thread if they're ready. Me? I'm still settling back down to earth, and it would take me a day or two...

I have to name a few of my favorite classes. Ronan Chris Murchpy's recording class taught me a LOT. I learned about value of SM75 mics, Event 20/20 monitors and old recoring how-to books. Then I came home and purchased the Event Monitors, six sm57's, and an old recording book. Rich, I am not. But if I am going to spend money, let's invest in the music! John Battaglia had a way cool class about bringing out the Rockstar in You! I could totally read into what he was saying! Michael Lloyd gave some interesting insights. When you are listening to a man who has over 100 Gold Albums to his name, you tend to want to hang on his EVERY word! I heard Michael Laskow speak many times and HE himself is an inspiration. It is amazing to consider that one man's concept and his commitment to pursue it has lerally changed many of our lives, mine included! I sooooo respect Michael! Two side-mentions: Laura Clapp was in the "gear promo" room testing (playing) the keyboard and vocal harmonizer. As I walked down the haul and past the room, her voice was sooooo stunning that I froze in my tracks as I was hearing the voice of a total pro and absolute radio-quality voice! And finally, at the late-afternoon listening panels, the entire crowd loved the Nerdy Boys song. The girl from Hawaii who wrote and sang that song has a TOTAL hit on her hands!!!!!

Yeah, I'll definitely post notes in near future and/or make them all available as a single .ZIP download for ease of access. I'm sure like a lot of you guys I still haven't completely unpacked my suitcase. Since Ronan's arrangment class was so great I'd definitely be interested to hear what he had to say. (Especially about the 20/20's as I used to work in a Guitar Center and always thought they were pretty decent monitors.) I really regret missing the melody masterclass. Does anyone know if Derek Sivers actually had his Driver's Ed class? Because he wasn't in there when I showed up, so I assumed he had something come up.
