Does anyone have any thoughts about my question re the listening panels too? Is it only one song that we bring to all of them? If so, do you think Don't Mind Me's the best choice?

Hi All. Was just reading the thread about how to present your CD and saw that we should have a song to present at the listening panels, as well as for our meeting with the mentor. Would it be bad for me to use the same song for both? I'm leaning towards Don't Mind Me as "the" song...thoughts? Also, when you present your CD at the mentor meeting (whether it's the 15 minute slot or mentor lunch) is it okay to give them a CD with more than one song? Thanks again everyone!!

The chances of your song being played for even one panel is pretty slim, plus the panelists will be different, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's only if the CD has more than one song on it, but make sure you indicate which song you are entering for the panel draw, and include a lyric sheet (good to bring elastic bands for these things)At your mentor meeting, you have 10 minutes to do whatever you like... play a song or two, ask questions, etc. Typically a song is about 3 minutes so you might be able to get feedback on 2 songs during that time. Make sure you bring a lyric sheet(s).For the mentor lunch, it's okay to have more than one song on the CD, but I'd highlight the one song you'd really like them to listen to.JMHO

Hi Adrienne, Here are my thoughts for you if they help great if not please throw them away. This my sixth Road Rally love it everytime. The listen panel is a extremely slim chance of being pick to be heard because there are so many of us and only a hand full picked at random to hear. I think you should put into the box to hopefully be heard, "Don't Mind Me." (you sound great sing) and that song is great!!!!!!! The mentor session is quick but they will listen to something and "Brandy" is great to have second. Now I am hearing "Rest in Peace" and this is given me chills...WOW! I think this is one to have submitted to one of the panels and heard even more than "Brandy" even though it is a theme song. It's so powerful! What I am more than anything is a singer so lyrics is attractive to my attention and these are perfectly written. I do write some songs, but always record others too and this is a winner. What you should always be prepared for is singing on the stage if you get picked at the open mic and handing out CD's at the break out classes that will go on Friday and are great to attend. If you are into mostly writing songs attend Jason Blume's class that day. I enjoy helping new people so if you have more questions contact me at Kyleellen@cox.net. I would love to talk to you at the rally too. Country Song I think is great and the demo is fine. In fact when they listen to song that are by songwriter instead of an artist they often are more focused on the quality of the songwriting. I like this song better than Brandy because it's got very catchy lyrics. Also when you submit for any panel you can list what song so if you are there at the rally and decide to change before you drop it in the box you can change. One thing to bring is a portable CD so you can network with people and this way we all say "here listen to this song of mine." when you see the opportunity instead of saying they are great. Also bring business cards too if you can to pass out to Taxi members that you want to network with maybe artist looking for songs. Vistaprint.com is cheap way to do that. Best Wishes, Kyleellen

Based on everyone's feedback and other feedback too, I've decided to go with Country Song. But I'm thinking of putting Rest in Peace second instead of Brandy. Does everyone think it's a mistake to put your one ballad as the second track on the CD? Again, I keep wavering because I like different things about each song and I'm trying to guess what will make the best impression. It's so tough!! lol! Thanks for your help everyone! I can't believe it's almost here!!!

Hi Everyone. I'm hoping to start burning my CDs today so does anyone have any last minute comments before I do? I'm particularly still stuck on how to order the songs. I keep wavering back and forth so anymore thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!! Look forward to meeting you all!

Hi Adreinne,I haven't listened to your tunes yet but will as soon as I get a few minutes. One of the things I'm wondering is how many CDs to make and how to label them. Should the label be a generic white label with just the facts-- i.e. song title, songwriter's name and contact info-- or something more artistic that makes your CD stand out from the crowd?Cam
