Re: LaMont Dozier... Wow.
Please, please, please no arguing about this... It's silly. Ted just was being a cheerleader for the rally. Some have strong feelings about this because last year the board got so much rally-mania, it was bothersome to them... also understandable. Please let it go!!! ... There are way better things to talk about.Chits, my friend... Not going to the rally and talking about it here will not hurt you professionally with taxi or otherwise. The folks screening your songs aren't looking to see if you attended the rally and/or are a "team player" to help decide anything. Ted, my friend... I know you were being a cheerleader for something you feel strongly about.C'mon guys.... 'nuff.... please? Casey

Casey Please, Case, I didn't come in on your 'inyourdefense' thread and monitor what you said. And that thread turned into a free for all. And I hope you'll let us discuss what we think without any nannying. I object when all of you guys come on and say anything you feel, but think we get out of control when we are expressing our feelings. As far as cheerleading, maybe people should be more considerate of others because the post came off as critical of those who can't attend the Rally. And I think that could hurt us professionally in the long run. Sorry, but that's the way I feel. And for those of you who might say, 'well, you're hurting yourself professionally by making these posts,", well fine. I'll take that responsibility.

As far as cheerleading, maybe people should be more considerate of others because the post came off as condescending to me. Sorry, but that's the way I feel.My inyourdefense thread? Huh? Are we reading the same board? I made one joke (one sentence) about being paid and later apologized. The other thread self-limited when people apologized and moved on. So, expressing my wish that this doesn't turn into a war is "nannying"? And one of the main reasons I even posted on this thread was support for the feelings of YOU and others regarding the whole rally thing. I'm very much outta here... Enjoy yourself... It will take me a while to cool down.Casey

Re: LaMont Dozier... Wow.
I've already said, more than once, that I totally understand all the reasons why someone might not be able to attend the Road Rally. Health, finances, distance from a young family, not able to get time off work, worried about spending savings... and likely more. OTOH of course I'd like to meet Squids and Chitty and all the other folks here that can't go to this kind of event right now. I say of course because all ya'll are part of my internet 'family', eh? But I respect the reasons of those not going for choosing not to go. I still hope that we can meet in the future... and that doesn't have to be at a Rally either. I could head East one of these days, or whatever.Yep, there will likely be a fair bit of "dot" talk from those who are going, and some gleefull "I'm here" posts and other bits of excitement over the next 3 or so weeks. Afterwards, people will post their photos and people will post their notes from the classes & panels they attended. And then it will be Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years and it will all fade away until next fall. I think, whether you go or whether you don't go... the Forum will manage to muddle through the yearly Rally-mania & move on. Myself, I've been saving up for my trip to California and I hope you don't mind if I continue to be excited about taking a holiday & visiting 3 or 4 places and getting to meet some of my friends as well as attend an event that has been, for me, very valuable in my growth as a songwriter/composer.

Thanks, Vikki for your understanding and being so cool about this all. I'd love to meet you guys as well.I promise I have no problem with Rally enthusiasm...I'm sure I would be posting gleefully about it myself if I were going. Post away, have fun...I know I would be excited too! I loved the Nashville seminar when I attended. I just felt that some here were being a little critical of us (just this thread, no others at all) 'coz we can't go. And the professional implications of that concern me a bit, although yeah, I'm sure that won't affect our screening outcomes....it's just that when people network, sometimes things can be said, and I don't wanna come across as someone who doesn't want to go to a Rally...I just live in Alabama, and it's very far for me to go, and it requires tremendous planning (have an illness to think about too) and monetary problems.

And just for historical accuracy... "Dots" are only colored sticky labels and the concept was originally conceived as a simple way to solve the problem of forum members not finding each other easily in a sea of other Taxi members. See a colored "dot" on a name tag? It's a forum member! Any other use or dissemination for any other purpose, imagined or real, is strictly prohibited.

I consider myself a dot though, so I'd have to fight a non-dot. (just kidding, people) I just can't attend the Rally. Maybe there should be a special cat for that. A dot, non-Rally attendee.
