More Questions From the Grasshopper

Post by ottlukk » Tue Oct 07, 2008 4:52 pm

TV show line, remember? Why doesn't A&R Panel #1 have a category for Country? Seems like a popular genre these days. Or is it covered someplace else? Not very clear from the schedule of events. What's the most opportune time to get in line on Thursday afternoon, before the hordes descend? 3:00, 4:00? And finally, who's this Michael Laskow guy who's hogging all the panels? Does he have some connection with Taxi, or is he just another screener who's never forwarded one of my songs? Just wondering.Ott Lukk

Michael Laskow is the President & CEO of Taxi. He started the company at his kitchen table a dozen years ago. Hope that helps - look forward to meeting you there!

Checking the newest schedule (there's a link in yesterday's newsletter) - Panel #3 (listening panel) doesn't limit genres; neither does the Film/Tv panel; nor does the "producers looking for hits" panel. I imagine the reason there are specific limits on panel #1 is that those genres are what those panelists are most familiar with. It's interesting to me that they list Folk and Roots Music for that panel... as I see few opps for Folk but I'm a big folkie http://taxi.com:80/transmitter/0810/headlineA.html

Hey Hummingbird: Yeah, I was kidding about Michael. But I have to say, you're the most useful member on this board. Taxi should be paying you.Ott

While the panel isn't strictly speaking limited to those styles, that's what those major label A&R folks will be listening for. This could be made clearer in the write up...and hopefully will be clearer in the final info package.HTH,matto

Hummingbird: I've got a couple of tunes that I thought were Country, but one screener said they were too Folk . . . maybe there's an opportunity here. Thanks for your help.Ott
