Thought that would get your attention Don't worry, I do have plenty of clothes and even bought a big suitcase today to put them in.Naw, my problem is.... I can't think of what to put on a CD for the Rally. I have plenty of stuff (probably wayyy too much), but I don't know what it is I'm doing. The stuff I want to pitch for film/tv is likely not pitchable because I'm still learning my production stuff & I don't have (yet) a good stock of great sounds. I put a bunch of my vocal stuff on last year's CD and... well, that's so last year (I wore that last time). I've come a long way since then, and I'm closer than ever to the bar... but. Everything needs more work. Ack!

..what comes on the cds...well I think that comes down to "what do I do". a situation like this can help to define more clearly what your core competences are, what business you're exaclty in ("music business" is just an umbrella term).take the chance! cheers, martin

Re: I have *nothing* to wear!!
Hi 'BirdI've been thinking about similar things and realized that I may make multiple CDs, maybe (1) my typical film/TV sampler with about 6-8 songs and their corresponding backing tracks, (2) A CD with 3-4 full songs max period, for mentoring & 'quick pitches/feedback' and (3) One with backing tracks/instrumentals only (labeled with moods). So, why not make different CD's for different purposes? Make one with the best of your recent instrumental work. A lot of what you've done recently is very acceptable or very close, production-wise (you've had some forwards, remember?). Then have another with your best vocal songs, even if more than a year old. And finally, you could make one with both, clearly categorizing like Marty has on his labeling.Yes, this is a lot of work. I]m struggling with it too. But heck, we probably have to check a suitcase anyway, so we may as well be prepared. Oh, and I'm bringing post-its. Sometimes I like to put a post-it on a CD that says "Tracks 3 and 4". This can be a last minute decision based on a conversation with someone you meet. I've never been to a rally before but I use that at times when I send a pre-made sampler and want to make sure I've identified the tracks to listen to. (And I thought everyone was just wearing DOTS!!!) Casey

The other a "music library" CD with tracks available immediately for licensing.I'm following the suggestions that a lot of mentors (and others) have made for the "music library" CD. I'm putting just three tracks on there. Many say that if you put a bunch of tracks, well, they feel like they've heard it all and if not specifically moved - no call. However with only three tracks, if they like any of them they'd be more likely to be curious as to what else you might have for them. Once they contact you, then you use your "schmoozing" powers to lull them into a deal. I think you've got enough good recent tracks to choose from to whittle down to three "Is that available? I'll take it" tracks.

Re: I have *nothing* to wear!!
I know what you mean Hummingbird. I had the worst time trying to decide what to put on my CD as well. In fact, even now I almost wish I could re-pick my songs & placement of the songs, re-burn the master CD to send to the place that is duplicating/printing them for me. I knew I wanted 1 song for sure to be on it, but the other 2 were harder than hell to choose between. I only hope and pray the ones I did end up going with and the order they're in attracts some sort of attention to whomever listens to them Bryan
