Mentor Luncheons...good?

Post by tedsingingfox » Mon Oct 22, 2007 1:30 pm

Since I've just gotten a "dispatch" email about the limited seating for the Mentor Lunches (and REALLY am thinking it's a good idea), I was wondering about previous experiences of some of you Old-bees...Thanks for any feedback you can throw us newbies.Ted

Any tangible results you get may vary but generally you get to meet a fairly wide variety of industry professionals, ask questions and receive prudent advice. I've never gotten a deal from one of these but some of the best advice I've ever received through Taxi came through one of the mentor lunches.

I met several other Taxi members who I didn't know, chatted to them about who they are and what they do.... and got close up and personal with Michael Anderson, Pat Pattison, a A&R rep from a country label, and a manager. We all asked specific questions about the industry or advice for our own careers. On top of that, the lunch was excellent and probably would have cost $30 or more at a restaurant. H

I went to both lunches last year and found them to be helpfull as well, and the lunches themselves were really yummy. Excellent food - It could have been better for me if I'd had more questions in mind on different topics, but it was worth it. At least go to one if you can.

Thanks for the link, Martin. That cleared things up ... for me, anyway. So I'm now on the list for both. I figure, hell, if I'm needing to eat anyway, might as well feed myself a "yummy" meal (Anne said so ) AND get the chance to meet more mentors/make more connections/meet more TAXI members...Makes simple sense to me.Ted
