Re: a blend of orchestral and rock
Very interesting piece! This is what I love about this forum, listening to other members pieces, you really widen your perspective this way. But, if you want to get a forward on this one, you need better sounds. It sounds very midi now, too synthetic. The guitar is midi as well? Get someone to play it live, that would really lift the piece many %. If you can, invest in some great software like east west and so on. You need a powerful computer for this though.

Re: a blend of orchestral and rock
Thanks for listening Alexander, At this point I am happy to have what I have to write with. I don't have the means to get the software I need to compete with the music being submitted at Taxi. All I can do is keep writing and hope that people can hear through the MIDI. My work is starting to get some recognition and I may have an opportunity to have a symphony play some of my orchestrations in concert. If and when that happens I will post it for the forum. It is nice to see that it sparked your interest enough to replay. Thanks againDonny

That's great, Donny. If a symphony orchestra is considering playing your stuff, that means your compositional skills are shining through the MIDI sounds. Can you use expression/volume automation on your system? That could help with the dynamics.Vince

I'd love to hear it with a live orchestra! That would be something! The piece is great, so it deserves it!

(Can you use expression/volume automation on your system? That could help with the dynamics.)I don't know for sure Vince. I use Guitar Pro and haven't seen any automation programs in it. is it it'ts own program?(This is a sound like no other I have heard.I bet somebody will take this and run with it.)Thanks Paul, I hope you are right. I like to feel that I have my own style. But I still have difficulty determining the right genre for most of my stuff.(I'd love to hear it with a live orchestra! That would be something! The piece is great, so it deserves it!)Thanks Alexander, your comment helps. I have been writing for a long time and I need to feel that my work has value.

Re: a blend of orchestral and rock
Yeah Donny, we've been down this road before, haven't we!!Since most TAXI listings are looking for finished masters and with the tech these days, the bar is really high for production values. Compositionally you are right up there, though! You should continue to put this out there to have your music potentially played by live ensembles. It might be easier for a conductor to "hear through" the production and imagine what live players would sound like. It's impossible to expect a music supervisor for a TV show to do that, they simply don't have the time or resources to have something re-done with live players. It's just a different side of the business.I think you are an excellent composer and would love to hear a recording of your music played by musicians. If you can get a great recording of a performance, it might be pitchable if you want to go down that route.Keep writing (I know you will!!!)Mazz
