Not Sure There'll Be Any Interest, New Psych Rock
I've posted a few psych rock tunes that didn't get reviewed a few weeks ago so I'm not sure there'll be any interest this time around but I thought what the heck, one more try won't hurt... This one is close to finished, looking for final mix issues, had a great time over in the lyric forum with Hummingbird sorting out what I had and getting better lines to tell the story. The story is about a man who's wife is a herion/drug addict, they have kids (not mentioned) and he's a man of honor, honoring his marriage covenent (except for adultry he promised to stand with her until death do they part) and her condition has bottomed out so the lyric are his strained thoughts...www.williamthomasanderson.com/w2/God_Only_Knows.mp3God Only KnowsWords by William Thomas AndersonMusic by William Thomas Anderson and Jon WegenerCopyright 2009Verse 1I raise my eyesFrom a meal that’s long gone coldTo see a wife's silhouette And a love that’s wrinkled oldA faded shadowed faceStoned cold from the drugs she's onAnd the all in all is its all I can bear to comeChorusHow far is farWhen the distance slowly fadesHow hard is hardWhen the strength of youth evadesHow long is lifeWhen the windows to the sun have all but closedHow will our loveBe what it was, God only knowsSoloVerse 2A tear falls from my cheekA nightmare not meant to beTo see her empty heartWith no more blood to bleedThis side of death she’s sittingWishing for her life to endAnd the all in all I can bear to read this book she’s pennedChorusHow far is farWhen the distance slowly fadesHow hard is hardWhen the strength of youth evadesHow long is lifeWhen the windows to the sun have all but closedHow will our loveBe what it was, God only knowsBridgeChorusHow far is farWhen the distance slowly fadesHow hard is hardWhen the strength of youth evadesHow long is lifeWhen the windows to the sun have all but closedHow will our loveBe what it was, God only knows

WTA,I like the tune, nice production and vocals. Vocals kinda sound like a combination of Billy Idol, Pink Floyd and even a bit of David Bowie in places.Very dark lyrics, but the music and feeling all work together to set a strongly somber tone. Really nice IMO.One small issue I noticed is that there is a really high pitched (guitar?) during the chorus that while nice, it is a bit piercing on my audio setup (Audigy card connect to book shelf stereo). Not the best setup, so take it with a grain of salt. I noticed that the high pitch sound is there in the verse (like the 1st verse), but during the chorus is gets a bit piercing, meaning simply that it almost gets a bit distracting. Unfortunately I don't have a mixer's ear, so I can't put in realy freq and Khz terms, but hopefully you get the idea. As I said, just my 2 cents.Really nice tune overall and I really like the dark/spacy "feel" that the lyrics, production and musicianship provide. Nice judicious use of echo without overdoing it. Really nice mixing job. Also the ending effects are quite cool.Regards,Questor

Q, thanks as always for the time to have a listen and comment. Funny how so much can come out in a vocal track, you're hearing some of my big influences so it's no wonder. I did have a check on that high tone, thats a lead keyboard gone out of control, I've had a chance to fix that now, good ears mate. Echo/delay is a big part of psychedelic rock, reverb, tremelo, phaser, wah and some pretty fuzzy distortion. I'm a big fan of it all but less the fuzz sounds so I use more modern sounding overdrive coupling a Mashall and Mess set up in stereo. Cheers man!

long time no post, WilliamI enjoyed this song along, mani have to agree with Questor that this is a big nod to Roger Waters and I like that~I have little to say about mix corrections beyond Questor's mention of the high-pitched guitar...one thing i think you could do is peep the acoustic guitar track and listen to see if there are any strums that are a bit off ofthe beat...im listening on cheap head phones that bring the higher end of the EQ up and in a few parts i think some splicing/muting could help give the song a bit more punch and keep it smoothi LOVE the bass tone.keep rocking, brother!peacegeoff

Geoff, man good to hear from you, hey I owe you some whistle tracks!!! You were the first guy I met on this forum waaaay back and I was going to do some whistle track and totally spaced it but for some reason it poped into me head just now... I'll do just what you mentioned and check the strumming and I hear you about the spl/mute idea, will do... Do you have a timecode on that high guitar issue? Let me know if you still need some whistle tracks, I'll be finished this album I'm working on as of Oct 1 and I'll have some time after that...
