TAXI Rookie Questions

Post by jhmg » Tue Sep 15, 2009 9:28 am

hi! i'm a rookie to taxi. reading through these forums has been so helpful and informative. unsure if this is the right forum for these couple of questions that i have. apologies if it isn't.- when uploading songs and choosing the genre as AAA it gives the option of choosing AAA(Film & TV)...unsure of the difference or importance of this.- i'd like some feedback as to if my music would be considered AAA across the board. again, how important is the accuracy of the genre chosen on the taxi profile?- i'm considering re-recording 'you make it look easy' and would appreciate any thoughts on the song. specifically, i think there may be some rhythm issues and may want to re-track it with more of a david gray-ish approach to the drums.songs here - www.taxi.com/jeremyhoylereally appreciate your thoughts, taxi vets. hope to be able to contribute to these forums as i learn more about taxi. thanks so much.

Hey Jeremy,Not sure on the importance of the film/tv - label distiction when selecting genre - someone who's bothered to findout might chime in here.Nice song - it has great potential.2 quick things:1. IMO there needs to be more melodic variation in the verses - and possibly more lyric variation - 'maybe' happens a lot. Melodic variation may be enough to fix that.2. +1 on the rhythmic issues - not sure what it is (just had a quick listen) but when the drums come in the groove is not in the pocket - again not sure of the culprit.HTHCheers,Scott

Jeremy, I'm not a AAA expert, I'm more of a rock guys however I dig You Make It Look Easy. Cool bridge, nice pre-chorus set up for the chorus, good instrumentation and they lyric tells a story and uses good imagery. Its demo quality now but I'd love to hear this produced. I would like a stronger vocal peformance, just felt tentive is places but over all good timbre and emotions. This is a Matchbox 20 kinda feel and has some great potential imoh... cheers...

thanks for the replies. yeah, the whole genre definition part of the profile song uploads is a bit confusing. like most things in the music biz, probably just gotta learn by making a few mistakes along the way.as far as the rhythm in 'you make it look easy'...i'm sort of envisioning a drum groove a la 'drops of jupiter' in feel but maybe a tad electronic sounding. unsure if that's the most accurate description. i think this may straighten out the pocket a bit for the bass gtr to fall into.the other option is to straighten it right out to a country-ish rock feel like a lot of my other stuff has been directed lately.apreciate the insight and welcome more. many thanks.www.taxi.com/jeremyhoyle
