Folk Intrumental
I would be most appreciative for any feedback on my song "Deseration" which I am planning to submit to this:AMERICANA/ALT COUNTRY/FOLK INSTRUMENTALS -- both Contemporary and Traditional -- are being sought by a Production Company/Music Library (with clients such as the Discovery Channel and MTV and film credits such as American Gangster and Bourne Ultimatium) for inclusion on their roster to pitch for Film and TV song placements. Excellent arrangements, performances and recordings are a must. They offer a non-exclusive publishing deal with a 50/50 split on any upfront license fees as well as back-end performance royalties (meaning you will keep the writer share, the publishing share will go to the company). Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent sounding home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Monday, August 10, 2009. TAXI # S090810AM thank you for your time.

Re: Folk Intrumental
Hey Nick...nice to meet you!I'm not the person to say if your song is stylistically on target for the "AMERICANA/ALT COUNTRY/FOLK" aspect of the listing....so sorry, no help from me there. My feedback on the "Excellent arrangements, performances and recordings are a must" listing requirements goes something like. Just my $0.02 of course, offered as a way to start the conversation:Arrangement seems fine to me. Performance appears slightly out of pocket in places, but I'm not too sure. The main thing I would suggest spending the weekend on, is the mixing aspect. Your playing may be in perfect time, but in a few places the recording gets muddled. This is part of that devious "Broadcast quality is needed" phrase that gives us all (me ESPECIALLY included!) a headache from staring at the screen.I don't know if I'm breaking any rules here, but I'll bookmark a thread from a very accomplished musician. His name is Allen. Your playing is certainly great enough for what you've recorded...it's just the mixing and perhaps mastering aspect that can bring your guitar right out front where it belongs. Allen shared some recent acoustic guitar success here:http://taxi.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa ... =12345He's managed to capture and present his recording very well in his journey to that pesky "Broadcast Quality" hehe. I think it's certainly worth the weekend to revisit your mix and get that even volume and bright (but not harsh) sound out of that nice guitar performance!
Earplugs may be required for anyone over the age of cool.

Hey Nick, A few soft notes in there, but if you're going back to the studio, you should have this fixed. I like the vibe - not sure if it's "folky" enough for the listing, but it might be worth the try. I liked it though. It's a little out of my genre, so I could be off on my perception.Good luck!~wings~

Hey Nick,I get a Tejano/Tex-Mex vibe from this piece. Tejano is a folk music, but I'm not sure that's what they are talking about here. Might be worth 5 bucs to find out though. I like the feel of it. Dean

This has a very good vibe to it, but it felt to me there were some timing issues. Everything didn't seem to be in sync. It definitely has a Tex-Mex groove to it. I don't know if this would be considered "Americana", IMHO. Buc
