Ten Years Ago Today
Here's a tune I just finished, an anniversary song of sorts. The recording is just a work tape, so don't expect much there. I'm mostly interested in knowing whether or not the song is worth doing a studio demo on. I'm thinking maybe as a country song. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!Camhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=2377 ... am=trueTen Years Ago TodayI was tongue tiedand everything I'd sayjust got into the wayon the day I met youSomehow, I flew straight toward your lightlike a moth in from the nightjust to be with youMy love still looks good on youAnd your love melts my cares awayThere was something in the way that you looked at meten years ago today. One day,the best day of my lifeI took you for my wifewhen you said "I do"And everyday, I thank God that I'm aliveand that you'll be by my sidefor the rest of timeMy love still looks good on youAnd your love keeps the blues awayThere was something in the way that you smiled at meten years ago today.Something in your smile was so appealingit's a feeling that hasn't gone awayI love you soyou just have to knowthat it's for all timeMy love still looks good on youAnd your love keeps the blues awayThere was something in the way that you looked at meten years ago today. There was something in the way that you smiled at meten years ago today

Re: Ten Years Ago Today
Hi Cam, very nice, tender song. I hope you don't mind me saying, but there's a definite Billy Joel quality to the melody.Excellent lyrics - the "my love still looks good on you" line is great. Though what if you had more of a link to/relationship with the line that follows it? i.e. you almost "personified" your love as clothing, so can you do something similar with the next line (while stopping short of cheesy)? "Your love melts my cares away" is nice, but doesn't bounce off or complete the previous line as much as it could, IMO. Hope that makes sense, and obviously disregard if it's coming across as rubbish.I think it's well worth a demo, and I look forward to hearing it if you do it.Best,tt

That's a great comment tt. I had been thinking that line needed a little more of an emotional hook to it, so I'll think about what you said and see if I can come up with something.Cam

Hi Cam,I love the sentiment of this song. Do you mind if I borrow a few lines of it for my upcoming anniversary?I thought the modulation at the beginning of the chorus was quite effective. A good musical hook.Perhaps a few passing chords on the piano might be a nice transition between the chorus and verse? It's worth taking further into demo land, IMHO.Thanks for sharing this.Al

like a moth in from the night,,,,damn good, and the rest is too cam,,,i can certainly hear this "produced", suggestion, is don't let them "fill it up" too much, some of the quiet and spaces are very effective my friend. oh, only one comment as it's finishing,i'll suggest, but haven't thought about it (one listen) the on the very last line of the song, with the lift and the line, maybe repeat it? pounds home the title and leaves us with it....that's all i got....!well done and good luck!warren

CamI know you might take this to the next level, but man I like it as is.How would it stand up with absolutely no percussion? That is the only weak link from me.How many more do you have hiding?Very nicepaul

Cam,It's really good. Love the chorus. Love this line:My love still looks good on youMan if you could somehow work the chorus around to finishing with that line and making that your title hook ... I'd try for it. That title would really pop out at people. Make them wanna listen. But it's really good as is, too. Def worth a studio demo.DeanPS Just so you'd know .. if you are planning to submit to artists .. for film-tv it is not as big a deal .. You might google a bit to see if any hit songs were written with titles like "20 years ago" or "50 years ago today". I am actually writing one now called "50 years ago" ... each verse ends with that line .. it might be a very common title/theme.

Re: Ten Years Ago Today
Whew, thanks guys! By this point in a song I have no idea if it sucks or not. I'm sick of 'em all by the time I'm finished with 'em! So far nobody seems to hate it, so that's a good sign.Paul, percussion was by the Box Tops. Not the group... the box my RealGuitar software came in! Turns out it's also "RealDrums" if you slap the box with your hand. I was trying for the effect like the Beatles used in "Blackbird", but I ran out of talent, and also George Martin didn't show up to produce the session. Thanks again for the comments. They really help a lot.Cam

No hate here either; nothing but love for this piece. Agree with feaker that the perc gets annoying. I like the 'like a moth in from the night' line myself. Not sure if I'd go country with this. This has more of an adult contemporary feel to meVery nice piece. It really emotes as is. You might consider keeping this very close to what you have here. Thanks for postingErich

Thanks Erich, I appreciate the comments. It's going to the studio for a demo within the next week so the perc will be a thing of the past. Still up in the air about whether to go country or a/c.Cam
