Positive Equity - draft for review

Post by hummingbird » Mon May 18, 2009 5:00 pm

here's my first draft of a new composition, trying for this listing:BUSINESS NEWS THEMED INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an East Coast Music Publisher who has secured dozens of Film/TV placements for TAXI writers over the years. He is looking for orchestral instrumentals with Pop/Rock elements. He definitely does not want Rock tracks. The compositions should represent the images of money, the economy, Wall Street, budget, home foreclosures, unemployment, etc. He does want the tone of the pieces to be more positive than negative though.http://www.vikkiflawith.com/audio/VIKKI ... _Equit.m3u[or go to www.vikkiflawith.com & scroll down]

Wow Vikki... I love Ur title! Now why didn't I think of that b4... heheh!Very interesting track indeed... That synth sound in the background is brilliant (what synth is that?)Only thing is I feel that the synth vol. could go down a little bit and maybe take it away at some portion in ard the 3 quarter point & let it come back at the very end... just MHO...I like the changes at (I think note or chord variation) ard the 0:26 mark onwards...Cool theme indeed!-Kel

I think the synth/arpeggiator thing drives the tune well. Since this is a draft, I'll assume instrumentation could change. The harmony around 25-35 seconds might be a bit dark for the "more positive than negative" tone requested. The major 7th a couple seconds from the end stands out a bit. Good luck!Cheers.

i enjoyed this vicky--i found it more melodic than some of your others, and i like that.one problem is the listing itself--i might be dense, but can't understand how to get the "themes" of the economy (and all the rest mentioned...) in an instrumental--and be upbeat? this one will be very VERY subjective, but could work....very tough to produce to that description, IMHO. i thought that maybe typewriters, cash registers, the pink floyd thing, might help this--but who uses those devices anymore? tried to think of some other sound FX that might work for the listing....now listening for the 4th time and can't think of any suggestion--hell, don't even have ticker tape machines anymore? and who'd recognize it...people crying over a lost house? no that won't work either.... i'm afraid this is one of those listings we were talking about the other day on the other thread on vagueness...this fits vague to me...good luck with it though, it is cool.warrenps: wait, maybe some barely audible NEWS reporter/s in the background? TV and radio? nobody who can be identified in the production, but present--yes, that might be very cool...ok, that's all i got...still a crazy listing...

Hi Vikki, I like this track very much. It's quite unique. As Warren has already said, this is a very difficult listing. I'm trying a track for this too, but have no idea what I'm doing. I had the very discussion with my hubby that Warren talks about - machine-type noises - but they're a thing of the past... The only thing I can say I feel strongly about Vikki is that your track might be too gentle for a "news" theme. I think it needs to be more driving and urgent... but that's only my gut instinct and who kinows. The synth voice sound covers the "pop/rock element"...Keep us posted - this is an interesting one to watch!Georgie

Hi Vikki, the title of your track drew me into this post! Listening to it, I think you're definitely on the right track, and the vibe is quite close.I'm not an instrumental writer so I may be blinkered, but I would add more energy in the way of some percussion - all on the beats of your arpeggio (but definitely not on every hit). When I read the listing, something like the BBC News 24 theme comes to mind... complete with strings, drum punctuations etc.Good luck.tt

Vikki,This is interesting. Tough listing. I think it may sound a bit too 'cute' or 'child-like' for news. It might need to be more 'serious' sounding. Maybe.Dean

Hi Vicki;I think you're off to a good start with this. I agree with Dean that it sounds a bit too mellow for the news, though. If you added more percussion and accents, and had the main melody a bit more punchy (and with stronger instruments) it would take it more into the business-y feel of things. Most of my news themes are 20 seconds and less, but here's one that may give you an idea of one way to make it a bit more percussion driven while still being more on the orchestral side:http://www.suzdoyle.com/musings/Globaln ... 60kbps.mp3 ,Suz
