Thunder - Big Orchestra Piece

Post by fusilierb » Wed May 06, 2009 3:49 pm

Hi All,I originally started writing this for the Epic Orchestral Hybrid listing, when I realized I forgot the hybrid part. I want to finish it up and park it till something more appropriate comes up. I've added a bunch of new parts and did a basic mix. I'd appreciate any feedback on the piece itself and the mix.Thanks!Thunderhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=2348 ... anfusilier

hey Bryan... I've heard the previous version. U did something to this one and now it sounds BIGGER!!!Very Cool man... did U add more strings & brass expressions?I'm curious to know what U added to make it sound more massive...Thunder would be an appropriate name indeed.Oh... just one thing I wanted to hear more of... U know the percussion parts that come in on the first beat of some bars... I wanted it with more punch... maybe louder...-Kel

Kel,I added melodic lines in the brass and then doubled the brass lines with winds to thicken it up. I did add more vl parts, but I think you're just hearing the doubling. I also cut out a lot of the percussion beds, which seemed to beef it somehow. There was probably to much going on. And I think the part you are talking about is the anvil hits. I did bring them way down. I'll push em back up a bit and take another listen. Thanks!B

Thanks for sharing that Bryan... I'm jotting down notes man. It's not the anvil hits I'm talking about... the anvil hits are plenty loud already... Pls leave them be...I believe I wanna hear a punchy kick type of sound for impact on the first beat of Ur bars to accentuate the violins impact... if U know what I mean... the first note of Ur first bars pretty much gives the song a kick ass feel... that is the part I think should be enhanced even furtherer... maybe I'm very used to punchy music but that's just what I would do MHO...-Kel

I don't know enough yet about the composing aspect to give you any "expert" advice so I'll leave that to people who know what they're talking about. But just as a "listener"... wow... I think this is a great piece that shouldn't have a problem finding a home. It definitely evokes emotion and visual imagery for me. I totally hear what Kel is talking about regarding the punchy kick type of sound on the first beat. And in regards to that, what my ears were wanting/expecting to hear was some MAJOR POWER timpani action. Not a lot of notes, but just some BIG, BIG, POWERFUL ones, maybe doing the kick thing that Kel mentioned. Something to accentuate the "Thunder" aspect.Loved this piece, you are one talented composer my friend. Just a matter of time before you're posting threads in the Success Stories telling us when and where your stuff is getting placed! Count on it!- Big Blue

Thanks so much Big B. I really appreciate the encouragement. I now know the big sound you and Kel are referring to. It will become more featured as that is a great idea!It will be a great day when that first placement comes. Till then I've got to keep building the library. B

Hey Bryan, I like this piece a lot! I hadn't heard any previous versions so I can't compare them, but the moving lines on this are really nice. A very nice action piece.Good work!Steve
