Leave It Alone

Post by djb » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:08 pm

I'm trying to nail down the genre of this song for future submissions. One screener called it country and another says Americana. I say I don't know. Any opinions or advice with genre? It figures the screener for the country listing called it americana and the screener for the americana listing called it country. Not complaining just looking for more opinions. Thanks. The song is called "Leave It Alone" and is here: www.taxi.com/dberdoulay

It's well done, but doesn't sound like contemporary country to me.Americana may be closer.Anybody ever say that the melody sounds like "Free Falling?"Derek

I would agree with the quasi-consensus. It's a little too country for Americana and a little too Americana for country. Sounds a bit like Petty's Free Fallin'. What style is that?

Dave,Call me crazy but the melody sounds like some U2 or other English (ok Irish) pop ballads from the past. Not a bad thing but With the feel of the music and the steel guitar I would think a more rising and falling major key oriented melody with harmonies would maybe fit better. You I love your tunes this one just has a little different feel.M~

First thing I thought of is Tom Petty like. But the steel guitar makes it a little more country. Yea, you are stuck in between ... lol

I'd say Americana. I think that covers things that are sorta country and in between. Parts of the melody did seem similar to Free Fallin'. Dean

Thanks everyone for listening! Yep, Tom Petty has a bad habit of rippin' me off. He even stole my girlfriend back in high school. His song "Here Comes My Girl" should be called "Here Comes Daves Girl". But that's a whole nother story. I'll be waitin' for an "Americountrycana" listing ala Tom Petty. Which reminds of another line Tom stole from me: The waiting is the hardest part.

Hmm, and all this time I thought Tom was singing about willing yourself to get waist-deep in the Pacific Ocean--"The Wading is the Hardest Part."Definitely a nice sounding tune, although the vocals was slightly tentative for me. Music could be country, except for the drums which don't have that "Nashville" sound; vocals sound Americana-ish. C'mon, you gotta tell the "Here Comes Dave's Girl" story!Vince
