Happy Friday everybody! Please review............

Post by mcanty » Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:38 am

This song is called "Time"My co-writer came up with the chord progressions and I created the melody. We wanted this to sound a little bit like the band Train........specifically the verses were geared to sound like the song "Free"This is going to be a fully produced, electric song but we really really like this acoustic version. Instruments - Acoustic guitar, Mandolin, Cajon (the percussion.....I had never heard of a Cajon before this project), shaker, and tambourine.I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do........What are your thoughts?http://mactrax.youlicense.com/SongDetai ... 6Time:Wake up to another dayThere was a time I did not feel my ageBut I feel it nowPop two pills and take em downI'm just an aging fighter facing his last roundGo on and knock me outReminiscing of the pastJust seems like a wasteWhen I can count the memoriesBy the lines on my faceTime ain't gonna let me goTime will never set me freeTime'll never be my friendTime is catching up to meFather time has got my keysAnd I'm riding shotgun straight on downThe lineHe never stops for gasEverything I pass in lifeJust brings me closer to the end of mineMan it's going fastDo the same things everydayAnd lose who you areAnd now the road remainingDoesn't seem very farDrive until the wheels fall offI'll call it quits and kick back with a smileNo regretsWouldn't change it if I couldI know I can't so dreaming does no goodGuess I made my bedWhen I look back on my lifeI'm somewhat impressedWasting all my promiseIs the thing I did best

I think this song is great as an acoustic tune, I'm curious to hear what you have lined up for the other version.I always like more abstract lyrics, so it's hard for me to give you constructive feedback on that, because its just a matter of opinion. The vocals and harmonies are spot on, the song is constructed well, and there is a nice shift at the chorus. What's your target for this song? Because I pictured Kid Rock performing it...

hi mac--like the lyrics allot--the father time/keys verse is GREAT. solid song, what i find in the verse and in the chorus, are very familiar chord progressions with even more "familiar" sounding music, though there is definite separation of verse/chorus. i do like this, it just has a very familiar sound to it, and think that MIGHT hold it back at this stage of development. to my ears it sounds pretty retro, not exactly "today". it does have good structure BTW. good luck with it!the best, warren

Warren: I agree. Just a classic rock tune. Thanks for the review!

I like the song. Sounds like Black Crowes to me.The drums are fighting the guitar strum patterns. I could do without drums altogether Lyrically, "Reminiscing of the past" and "The road remaining doesn't seem very far" are the lines that sound a little forced to me.My favorite verse:"Father time has got my keysAnd I'm riding shotgun straight on downThe lineHe never stops for gas"Good luck with it.Derek

Yeah this could work for country-rock type of listing. I agree with Derek that the drumming isn't doing the groove any favors. Full on rock mix would service this song well. Good luck! eo.

Pretty cool tune. The guitars are recorded nice and even, but I do hear a little competition with the Cajon at times. I'd probably rethink the entire percussion mix--might have to pan and EQ a little more. Remember that without bass and drums, everthing is in the mid-range and it's gonna get hard to do a good mix without crowding. This one is pretty good, but the percussion is a bit weak--for example, the tambourine just sounds like somebody was hitting it in the background. The vocals are well done; the lead is just slightly uneven, sounding a little distant at times.I'd be tempted to do a version where this acoustic leads into the more produced sections.Vince
