Hey Bryan, really nice effort here. I love the interweaving lines. What are you using for the various percussion? Is this all EWQLSO? Overall it has a very big sound. That sharp metallic "clink" may be a too much out front but it adds a nice texture. There's something about the snare pattern right in the middle of the piece that bothers me a little. I can't quite say why but the rhythmic pattern seems awkward to me.Great job overall.Steve

Maybe 10x was a little over the top. 6x otta do the trick. AndréApr 20, 2009, 11:26pm, fusilierb wrote:Thanks Andreh,It's all going pretty fast. Hopefully I can pull off with some of your points in mind. 10x the amount might be a tough call, but I'll see you at least 6x.B

Very nice work. It is a great beginning, and it has that sound like "destiny" is about to take place. Very nice. I am looking forward to hearing the finished work.Timothy S. KlughGrove City, Ohio, USAwww.TimothySKlugh.com

Wow, this is all over the map. Thanks to everyone for the comments. I left it alone yesterday so I can hit it hard today with fresh ears and new ideas. As it stands now, its about four hours of improvising and playing around with sounds and ideas, mainly the percussion. It needs a surgical knife and some breathing room here and there. I'll dedicate the next two days to making this thing really work "somehow". Thanks again everyone for the encouragement and the comments. It's a big help.B

Steve,No the percussion is not all EWQLSO. I'm using the standard BD, SN ensemble, cymbals, anvils and timpani from that library. I'm using the techorganic kit from their Goliath Collection which is a great source of super sonically recorded hits that I love. And then Cubase 5 came with all sorts of neat new toys. Some of which are nicely recorded drum kits of various makes and models. I've got probably six of those kits loaded, even though I'm only using one or two drums from each kit. All of the above are being manually played over something Cubase calls the LoopMangler, which is super cool toy that allows you to create complex rhythmic beds by basically farting around with sliders until you find something you like. The LoopMangler is my new best friend and is going to allow me to finally start writing some decent electronic beat.So there is a lot going on in the percussion part(s). Probably too much, which I'm going to address once the music is nailed and its time for the icing. That "something about the snare part rhythm" that your hearing is that I just hit record and improved a snare line. Not the best way to nail a part, but it let me quickly capture a vibe I was hearing so that I could go back and refine later. I was not expecting so much positive feedback on this first draft, so now the pressures on, this things going to have to really step up to the plate. Which is a good thing for me. Allright, back to writing!B

Hey Vince,Probably should have posted the listing at the outset. Here it is:EPIC ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS are wanted by the Director of Music at an L.A. based Music Library/Publisher with current MAJOR film and TV placements (e.g. Film: Twilight, I Love You, Man, He's Just Not That Into You, Television: Ugly Betty, True Blood, Beverly Hills 90210, and many more). He is looking for "the biggest, most epic modern/hybrid orchestral pieces available." He said it doesn't have to be a live orchestra but it definitely should not sound like you used "samples".

All right folks, I re-read the listing. I don't think this is going to fly at all. Not Hybrid enough, I don't think. This may have to be completely shelved.B

Hey Bryan... I really like Ur this piece... I think U should think about adding some of Ur cool synth stuff in & make it more hybrid...I hope U keep this one for the listing.-Kel(am about to leave for my day gig... but I really like this track so I logged back in to tell U to keep going at it)

BryanI like the concept overall very much and I can tell you have put a lot of thought and work into this. This has a big "epic-like" sound with lots of textures. I worry that some of your percussion in the beginning sounds repetitious with just a bit of process showing through. To my way of thinking, and I may be wrong, but epic is more like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and so forth. While listening I kept waiting for a melodic theme to emerge that would give the piece direction. I thought it would be stated in your low brass in the beginning but it never happened. I am quite impressed and would not presume to tell you to do it differently. Just a thought!Good Luck!Keith
