Is this pitchable?

Howdy all - I'm working on a new tune but as usual I have my doubts as to whether it has a future any where but in my I-Tunes library. I generally pitch to film/tv listings as I'm not interested in going the artist route but I have a feeling my tunes are more suited to an artist deal. Anyway, could this be used in film/tv? Music library? And finally, what genre? Singer/songwriter? Indie pop? Any input would be very much appreciated. eo,Really interesting song with a cool, understated production. I think this is certainly pitchable. You say you're not looking for an artist deal (and I think it is pitchable for that purpose), but yet your voice has a lot of character. You might consider singing it a little "straighter" so that the listeners (producers, A&R reps, et al) can better imagine their own artist in your place.I think I'd look for a stronger lyrical hook. "Make yourself at home" fits fine (and could even have a "creepy" element), but what about something such as, You could call this home my dear It's just your kind of atmosphereThe rhythmic synth at the end of the choruses sounds just a little out of time to me and could be more effective if it were exactly in sync with the beat.Great job overall--good luck with it!Vince

Hi Vince, thanks for listening. Yeah, I like the creepy sort of dark humor element that the existing lyric has even if it makes it less universally pitchable. But i hear you that taking some of the "character" out might make it more "translatable". That's why I like pitching to film/tv though, seems like you can present yourself as an artist without going for an artist deal, does that make sense? Thanks for taking the time, appreciate it. eo.

I like this progression and melody a lot. The arrangement is interesting too. Not sure if I'm down with the feedback loop around 2:40 and some of the other ethereal treatments, but I might just be an old fuddy duddy.... I'd take one more scrub through the vocals and fix just a few places. There's a fine line between vibe, and just, well, a little out of tune. I think you walk it extremely well, but might want to reign this in a touch more.Hard to classify, but I'd think that this could go singer songwriter, possibly alternative, or even country if it was re-arranged and tracked (not suggesting you need to do that...)Really enjoyed the listen!

Hey Tele - Good point on the fine line between vibe and simply being out of tune. Never considered myself as a lead vocalist until relatively recently and I seem to always be right on that line. Usually when I get a take that I feel has vibe I live with some minor pitch issues. Lazy? Maybe... I might try a more stripped down, traditional arrangement of this tune at some point too but i do enjoy the little tidbits of ear candy as well. Brad Paisley fan? Dude can flat out shred... and sing... and write. You're no slouch yourself, keep pickin'! Thanks for listening!

Hi eoI think this has film/TV potential because it vibe-based-- nice acoustic thing going on. I also didn't care for the electronic FX around 2:40-- distracting. You may want to cut an additional mix with only acoustic guitar and vocal- maybe a little more but not much because requests for pure acoustic and vocal come up and if this does well that way it could be a contender.There is a little bit of 80's singer-songwriters like Steve Forbert, Fogelberg, etc in there... That's fine for film/TV-- doesn't have to sound like a very current singer-songwriter as long it is pitched for the right opps.I'm not the best at picking out pitchy spots on vocals unless they are far off, but I thought I picked up a few. That high note on "dear" is a challenging one but getting it right is critical to the track's success-- if the screener or film/TV sup hears it as off (especially so early in the song), you'll lose them.This is a good example of a tune that would not be pitchable for an artist's hit single but performed and recorded effectively enough could get placed in film/TV. Very cool!!! Dig your voice....Like the tune... does have a creepy edge which is interesting....I like the FX thing ... fix the timing as Vince suggested and drop it a tad in the mix so it's more felt and I think it can be very effective... I am not the best judge for pitchable so I won't give an opinion there.... Good stuff!!Peace, Geo

Hey there Casey, Geo and 468. Thanks for the listen. Yeah, seems like a hung jury on the effects. I think it's probably worth mixing a version sans effects and one with effects tucked in a little more. By the way that's just an analog delay on one of the acoustic guitars and I'm manually increasing the feed back and then backing off. And oh yeah, by the way, it's a plug-in by a guy named Massey and I hihgly recommend going to his website and downloading his free demos. They have no time limit and no weird glitches and they sound really great. If you buy the real versions you can save your settings and use them on high sample rate sessions among other things but the demos are perfectly usable. That said, if you get the demos and like them it's nice to throw him a bone and purchase one or two, they're cheap.http://www.masseyplugins.com/Thanks again, good luck to all! eo.

Nice production. Good stereo field. Good voc performance. The accoustic guitar delay-feedback is tough to get into and you may want to either remove it or experiment with using it with song tempo. You may have success with modulation instead of feedback. If you are set on using the effect the best results will be to modulate in time if possible.
