I Only Want You

Post by Mark Kaufman » Wed Mar 11, 2009 12:03 pm

I wrote this in 1990 right after I met my wife...boy, did I ever mean it. (I proposed within a couple weeks, we eloped a few months later. ) I recorded a very hissy 4-track cassette version back then, so this is a new recording for the 21st century. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7415502I Only Want YouI don't want no moneyI don't want no showI don't want no conversation with anyone I knowI only want youI only want youThe time I spent without you was a waste of timeI only want youI don't want no alcoholI don't want a smokeI don't want no fair companion telling me a jokeI only want youI only want youThe time I spent without you was a waste of timeI only want youPlease don't fly awayDon't you fly awayYou know I only want youPlease don't fly awayDon't you fly awayYou know I only want youPeople show me shiny treasuresPeople show me the doorPeople show me everything that I don't wanna see no moreI only want youI only want youThe time I spent without you, it was a wasted timeI only want youI only want youCopyright 1990 by Mark Kaufman

Mark, this is a cool tune (and its not cheesy like the one i wrote for my wife when i first met her), its got kind of a Petty vibe to it.The drums sound a little distant, is that them there EZD's?Not sure if it's the drum pattern but i never really felt locked in like i wanted.Love the "please don't fly away" section!

Yeah...I'd agree with Mark that the drum groove is definitely not happening here. Also the bass part sound like its played by a geetar player and doesn't seem to be feeding off the drums or vice verse.Bridge section is kinda cool though.

Just re-makin' an old tune huh? Haven't you written anything new lately? I guess you're not doing 14 songs this month. Cool tune.
