Genre Help needed
We have a bit of trouble making HYBRIDS. Quite often it comes down to what type of vocals are put on the music to help steer it one way or the other. Input is definitely welcome on this one. * NOTE: this is not a final mix. Some things are sticking out a bit much for me, but if you have comments on those things they are welcome also. My son does read the posts.http://www.taximusic.com/stream/215024/ ... st.mp3Some here say strictly Pop and others say it has an Urban feel also. Your thoughts????

How about "Purban" Honestly, the acoustic git sounds a little flat to me.Not big enough. How did you record it?Also the distortion melody line isn't doing it for me either. It sounds like a guitar, but its played kind of tentatively, if that makes sense.Maybe a synth patch would fit better? No bass? Kind of missed it.JMO.

RLD,My now 18 year old (b-day today) did this. He hasn't mixed it yet so things are thinner than normal. He has mentioned adding a base. He got Trilogy this past weekend so he might revist this song. He did this a few months ago. I just ran across it again while looking for Hip Hop instrumentals to submit today. He usually records his electric guitar through Gear Box....not sure if he did the same with his acoustic or if he mic'd it???? Good question... I'll ask him. Thanks for the feedback!!!!Now if we can get the industry to create a PURBAN genre for us that's be GREAT !!!! We can do Purban all day long....

Re: Genre Help needed
Hi Tricia,I would say this urban pop. It reminds me a little of the Chris Brown/Jordin Sparks tune "No Air" production.I really like this tune. It has a great feel to it. I have a couple of recommendations for Tadjh on the tune production wise. I found the electric guitar sample playing the melody a bit too synthetic. He might want to try a different instrument or if possible record a real guitarist doing that melody line. I really like the other guitar parts though. The other thing I would recommend is ditching the reverb claps that don't fall on the two and four. It was a little distracting to hear them on each quarter note when they came in especially as the groove started so well with that cool drum pattern. I think it takes away from the great feel the tune and makes it sound a little stiff. This is a great step forward from the tunes I've heard him produce.Best,Cisko

Cisko,Thanks! On the electric guitar part....that is a real guitar:-) not sure what effect he has on it though. Getting him to change the placements of the claps might not fly, but he might try it. This actually is not even one of the better pieces he's done lately. He's really growing. He just hasn't mixed me down copies of his newer stuff so I can't post it.I just asked about the electric guitar and he said he went for that sound because he didn't have any other synth in the song. He said he will give it a listen to see if he can do something different. Thanks again for the feedback

Tricia,I think I know the vibe he was going for - something like the Beyonce tune "Single Ladies". If he wants to keep the claps he should try to get them to sit in the pocket a little better. In the Beyonce track they have a sort of Flamenco groove to them. Can't wait to hear more.Best,CiskoFeb 26, 2009, 3:04pm, che wrote:Cisko,Thanks! Cisko,Thanks, He said he might adjust the claps (- 1&3) They are currently gospel claps. I definitley agree to put them lower in the mix.I will post a song today or tomorrow that he just did a semi-mix on. I would love your feedback on it. It's called She Ain't Plastic. He's so busy with baseball, acting in plays, school (senior year) etc.... that his studio time is quick in quick out right now. He has a session scheduled for Sunday with some kids from school, so I'll try to get him to mix down some stuff for me too.

Hey this is a cool start of something... I agree on urban pop... Trilogy will serve him well on bass sounds.

Patrick,Yep, he's loving Trilogy. Hopefully he'll get back to this one soon. He's so split. We were joking last night about him making music for all of his ethnicities. He's multiracial and will be doing hip hop one minute, pop rock the next and some orchestra based instrumentals the next. He's really coming along with feeling the melodies. He use to struggle with finding melodies, and would rely on my husband. Now days we are literally playing executive producer rolls. A tweek here and there.
