"This Time" goes Americana

I saw Andy posted his song "My Time" today and coincidentally I just got the demo for my song "This Time" back today. I posted the work tape a couple weeks back, and the demo turned out considerably different. I wasn't sure it was going to work as a country song, but to me it sounds kind of cool with the Americana treatment Jimi's studio gave it.Any comments are welcomed. Cam,Great sound, of course. The wah-wah instrument in the right speaker is interesting and unexpected for this genre. I think it all works well, with a tinge of Eagles on the harmony answer/title vocals.What are your plans for it?Vince

Hey Vince,Thanks for the comments. The wah-wah thingy is the one thing I wasn't sure about. At first I hated it, but after a few listens I'm sort of getting used to it. My plan is to pitch this for an artist cut, just not sure if it would be considered country or Americana?Cam

Yeah, seems you're riding the line between country and Americana. Country is probably a higher bar and stricter genre, so you might have better luck submitting for the other.

Cam, I remember this one. The production sounds good to me. I don't hate the wah-wah, but since you guys pointed it oit...it does kind of stick out now. It does seem to be riding the fence...I can definitely hear the country feel, but the delivery really brings out the Americana feel...and Vince said it, it really brings to mind the Eagles. I really like it...what artists are you thinking of with this? George Strait? Problem is most Americana is singer-songwriter.Andy

Hi Andy,I was thinking Josh Turner ("Me and God") was probably the country artist it would have the best shot with stylistically, but not sure if he would do a song that's this cynical.I did actually submit it last night for a George Strait listing on another site, but I think he'd be a long shot.I'm just glad it has some country potential at all now, as my work tape sort of sounded like the Wilburys to me. I played the work tape for a top Nashville publisher on the songwriter's cruise and he said "nice song, but it's not really country... the melody sounds more like something you'd hear on an oldies station". I don't think he'd say that if he heard it now, although I'm sure it's still not something you'd hear in the country Top40. Not unless Ricky Skaggs makes a comeback.Cam

Defintately more americana/bluegrass with this production but I dont see whay it couldnt be a neo trad. pitch.The "wah" effect actually sounds like a phased dobro or slide guitar. I have been hearing that teqhnique more and more lately. I personally love it. Your turning into a songwriting machine Cam. Good luck with this.
