Re: "This Time" goes Americana
Cam, i really like this song, the music reminds me of James Taylor's "Copperline" one of my favs!I think it has some potential in the country market.the audio file seems a bit wishy washy, is that the "wah" effect people are speaking of? there's something strange happening on the last hit of the song, maybe it's my puter but it almost sounds like the it's playing in lo-fi.marc

Jonathan - Thanks.Matt - Thanks buddy. Sheesh, I'm still trying to figure out what the black notes on the piano do, so I'm not about to try teaching anybody anything.Marc - Thanks for the feedback. I actually sped the song up a bit in software and it degrades the audio slightly. I only hear it on that last hit of the song, like you say. The wah-wah slide guitar is there on the original. I hadn't thought about it sounding like Copperline until you said it. A little too much like it at the beginning for my tastes now that you mention it. I love JT, and that's one of my favorite JT cuts ("tore up and tore up good, all spec house and plywood") so it must have been some kind of subconscious inspiration.Cameron

Nothing wrong with being subconsciously inspired by Mr. Taylor...one of the great singer-songwriters of our time. I had heard that audio change at the end of the demo too, and I wasn't sure what that was. I didn't realize you sped the song up. I like the current speed.Andy

Re: "This Time" goes Americana
Odd that the slide/wah guitar actually makes it more country and less americana in today's market. I noticed that the sound quality was well below Jimi's usual high standards; if possible you should use a WAV file for the speeding up, just a couple of percentage points at a time in a couple or more passes, THEN convert to MP3. This should do wonders to preserve the initial sound quality. I agree Josh Turner's a better fit than George Strait. This is a dang good song, good enough for an album cut, IMO,and shows considerable progress, but I think it's maybe not the knockout punch you need for a high-bar listing-they're only looking for potential top ten singles.

Thanks Mojo! I'll give it a try the way you said. I don't have the WAV file from Jimi yet, but should have it tomorrow. The mp3 I got from Jimi sounds great, so it's definitely me who has jacked the audio quality.Appreciate the comments about the song too. I don't know if it's my best, or even my personal favorite, but it's the only one I've written where I don't cringe at the lyrics at some point in the song, so I guess that's growth.Cam

CamFirst off, thanks for leaving your vocal in place.Kept going back an forth between the tracks and was trying to figure out exactly what they did do to your vocal in the process. Do they ever say, or do they just hand over the finished product?I think this has it's own original feel. Thought blood sweat and tears, "I'm not fraid of dying and I don't really care" (don't know the title) but settled into an enjoyable listen wtih no previous bias. All I can honestly say is "it's cool"Paul

Hi Cam... Wah part didn't bother me at all. I like how the drums kind of kick in around 1:10. Sounds country to me although I'll admit that line is often blurred to me.

Hey Paul,That's not actually me singing... but I'm flattered you would think so. His name is Trent Jeffcoat. He's a Nashville demo singer but also a songwriter in his own right. We talk about which singer to use for each song, and maybe what I think my work tape is lacking that they need to fix, and then I just let 'em do whatever they think it needs and they handle it. Jimi's group are great at that.I love that Blood, Sweat and Tears album you're talking about. That album was a real trend setter in 1969. I still have it somewhere.Cam

Thanks for the comments Patrick. I'm also having Jimi work up a version with female vocals so I don't sound like a woman hater! Cam
