The Walls Came Crashing Down (4 of 14)

Post by Mark Kaufman » Tue Feb 10, 2009 12:30 pm

Here's #4 of 14 for F.A.W.M. (February is Album Writing Month), a collab with the Idea Guy, Greg Swartzentruber. Needs an electric guitar, but the gist is here:http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7325685The Walls Came Crashing DownLittle Red Riding Hood was dressed for funShe was all tramped up in blue and whiteThe Three Little Pigs wined and dined herThey got her good and drunk that nightNaughty Red Riding Hood jumped up on the barStarted grinding for those horny swineThey all were stuffing tips into her basketThat rider was dancing on a gold mineWe were all dancing when the walls came crashing downAll our piggy friends were passed out on the groundWe thought we were safe with our piggies all aroundBut sure enough, the walls came crashing downThe Big Bad Wolf cruised by the piggy’s padHeard the sounds come from insideHe peeked through the window, saw those happy laughing pigsDrunk, fat and preoccupiedIt ain’t hard to guess what a Big Bad Wolf would doWhile Riding Hood was rolling in the hayThat Big Bad Wolf he huffed and then he puffedAnd he blew that house of cards awayWe were all dancing when the walls came crashing downAll our piggy friends were passed out on the groundWe thought we were safe with our piggies all aroundBut sure enough, the walls came crashing downBridge~Fairy tale cops locked the whole crew upLittle Hood lost all her tips and had to stay in jailWhile those pigs just grabbed some blackberries and kept on digging inAnd waited till their uncle paid the bailWe were all dancing when the walls came crashing downAll our piggy friends were passed out on the groundWe thought we were safe with our piggies all aroundBut sure enough, the walls came crashing down© 2009 Greg Swartzentruber & Mark Kaufman

Hey MarkI love this! I am not a production person, but I wasn't missing an electric guitar. I loved the intimate feel of the acocustic and the great vox. I have a few teesny weensy changes I would make lyrically but they are so insignificant that I decided they weren't worth it. What a great and fun song! Did I mention that I love the vox?Cheers,Ellen

Thanks Ellen! But hey, bring on the suggestions. Right now I'm just flying through a bunch of new pieces until I hit 14...I'm not really looking back. But suggestions here will really help when I go back to fix things up.And thanks for liking the vocals! I drank a lot of beer last night so I would have sort of a Prine/Kristofferson sound this morning. -Mark

OK Mark. Here you go. I wasn't kidding when I said "insignificant." It's just my restless brain at work! Feb 10, 2009, 4:49pm, ruby wrote:... well ..... all in all, the song is pretty entertaining. drums are a bit simplistic and don't add any interest to the tune when in fact you can take this beat and make it a lot more than it is with some rudimentary rolls and maybe *gasp* a few crash cymbals. the bass is compressed in an ugly fashion ... decent standard country walk but that's about it. don't think they'll be any bass part of the year awards coming for the part - but it's solid. but it has little bottom and at the same time, a lack of tone otherwise ... maybe run it thru maxbass or something huh?acoustic is well played and clean as a whistle .... but lacks the tones and frequency to carry the song on it's own for chordage and flavor. I think if you don't wanna bother with an electric guitar, maybe some fiddling might work - at the very least, the steel guitar or a slide is written all over this.vocals are typically tight and characteristically enjoyable (from what little I know - and I do know) .... good personality in the delivery. excellent pitch and sure fire pure countryfied. harms are spot on too. par for the genre. nothing unique nor especially notable but solid.melodically straight forward and tho a little formulaic, still good. a little ol' dylan inspired crossover wannabee thing happening ... I wanna like the lyrics ... they have moments of excellence but the cutsy factor is a little off putting to me. I can't help but think that with more thought, they could have retained the simplicity of the story without referencing something as ... as .... well ...as lame as the 3 little pigs. it turned me off. and is sure to turn off lots of people. and the ones that think it's cute to begin with will quickly lose flavor with it with subsequent listens. lyrically, because of that, it has zero staying power.rubyps - oooops, did I drop out of character there? sorry. let me add ... it's really really good. and so far above what I could ever think of writing or producing. I'm not sure why I said all those previous words. I must be channeling ..... sorry .... I'm not qualified to say such things. considering how crap my music is. and my other skills. Thanks Ruby, I really appreciate this. Right now I'm sort of flying through the whole process in order to spit out 14 songs in 28 days, so a lot of what you wrote is also how I look at it...only I just have to sigh and keep flying. But when I come back to salvage the ones that have a chance, a nice thorough critique like this will really help me.THANK YOU! And yes, you are qualified to say all of that. Anyone who listens to music is qualified. And two years ago, the word crap was the very best word to describe my recordings too. -mk
