ALT ROCK/INDIE POP ADVICE
Hello, I am new to TAXI and I could surely use some advice with the following listing and an instrumental I have put together.ALT ROCK/INDIE POP INSTRUMENTALS in the stylistic range of Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Bloc Party, etc. are sought after by a Major Music Publisher with distribution through a huge Production Music Library. This Publisher is also an Emmy-winning Composer for daytime television and this is a fantastic opportunity to be introduced to a Publishing/Licensing relationship as well as the possibilities of future composition projects with a VERY successful industry pro. Excellent original tracks, performances and recordings are a must! These tracks shouldn't be too dark or heavy -think fun, uplifting, exciting... a little quirky is fine for this one as well. This Publisher will be looking to sign 8-12 tracks for an upfront "buyout" fee that will be in the $2K range. While it will be an exclusive purchase of the material, this Publisher will not take any portion of your writer's share. He won't be looking for custom compositions, but rather a collection of "B" material -tracks that are laying dormant in your catalog. While we can be a bit more liberal for this one, you'll want to be sure that the tracks themselves are very well written and the recordings are Broadcast Quality. This material will be pitched primarily to Film/TV projects. Please submit 2-3 instrumentals online or per CD, but be prepared to send more if the Publisher gets in touch with you. He will ultimately be interested in signing 8-12 tracks for the buyout fee mentioned above. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than February 17, 2009. TAXI # S090217AR I listened closely to the examples given in the listing. The first two bands sound like current Alt Rock with a blues vibe and built around a rhythmic foundation. The second two examples sound like they came straight out of the 80s New Wave scene. Sort of a strange combination. Anyway, at the present, a rough mix. Please give a listen and tell me if this tune has any merit or should be deposited in the round filing cabinet...Not sure how to link to the song so here is the page.http://www.taxi.com/t4mhThe song is: Theme_40Thanks in advance for your input!Keith

Hello Keith. I'm afraid that it appeared that the instruments were not playing together and missing the pocket time. Some things were consistently early and some were late. Based on the drums as the timepiece of course.

CarlosThanks for the comment. It sounds right to my ear. Not everything comes together all the time right on the same tick and that sort of makes it sound real to me. However, if that sounds like a mistake....hmmmAt any rate, all of that is fixable. I mainly want to know if you think it fits the listing?

I'm pretty confused, and that could be because ive had like 8 beers, but what is it you are trying to achieve? To submit your music for this ad?if so, first of all, you are likely getting taken.Ask me how many times Beau Hill (from former 80's love Ratt) has contacted me.The folks just want to charge you to mix and master your crap. While it may NOT be crap, to them it is, they are just out to make a buck. It's very rare for a publisher to advertise in an unsolicited forum unless they have a scheme.Your music is pretty decent overall, you have a studio, sounds like a yamaha motif in there and some other things, but I'm not sure what it is you want to achieve. If it's a muse instrumental, they don't do instrumentals, and your style is more 80's jan hammer than muse supermassive black hole.Anyhow, it's a weird request but if it works for you, great.

I like this piece, I certainly wouldn't round file it! You did a gret job of creating interest and changing motifs during the 2min runtime. Regarding the timing, I heard some spots where the bass was laid waaay back. You might want to tighten that up just to solidify the pocket. I think some of the synth sounds might be a bit too 'off the shelf'; you might want to dig into some soft synths and find some stuff that's a little more current.Cool piece, thanks for posting itErich

Re: ALT ROCK/INDIE POP ADVICE
Guys THANKS for your input and listening. I've only spent a few hours on this tune and I admit it is rough in a lot of ways. I mainly wanted to find out if anyone thinks it is worth pursuing for this listing. What I take away from your comments is that it doesn't sound at all like Muse or Franz Ferdinand. The middle verses do not sound at all like 80s New Wave like Bloc Party and The Killers. For sure I've missed that boat completely. It would probably result in a rejection if I submitted for this particular listing.Keith

Re: ALT ROCK/INDIE POP ADVICE
There's some nice musical idea in that song for sure. I also sort of doubt whether or not this song fits that genre criteria in the listing. It sort of reminds me of dream theater or progressive metal music more than indie rock. Also, there is definitely some rhythm/timing problem with your drums or the other instruments, so you definitely need to fix that.-Jeff
