Submit or not to submit...I need your help!!
Hi Everyone - I've been lurking but not posting for a while but its good to be back in touch. I was thinking about submitting for the "upbeat fun " instrumental, but I'm not sure if I should as there is quite a bit of instrumentation in this tune, and I feel like it may be a little too "thick". Here is the listing:HAPPY/UPBEAT/FUN INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a successful Production Music Library/Publisher that has signed and placed tons of TAXI writers/songs over the years. This company will be looking for material that would be great for Feature Films and TV/Radio/Commercials. The tone can be quirky and comedic, light and airy, bouncy and silly, etc. Primarily, the focus will be on spare instrumentation that features clever dynamics and melodic "moments". The range is wide here stylistically, with the focus being on the overall tone. Nothing dark, dramatic or moody for this one - only happy and fun. There are no arrangement restrictions here, but be sure the instrumentation isn't too thick or lush. February 6, 2009. TAXI #Y090206INand here is the song:http://music.taximusic.com/hi_181124.mp ... 8u6Ho%3DMy thought is that they want something more comedic than just fun - I'd really appreciate any thoughts on if you think this listing is or is not a good use of my $5

The quality of the mix in terms of the "authentic sounds" is good. I'm just wondering if this is a little too busy. I'd like to hear the rythm guitar back off so I can hear the marimba (?) & other sounds better. The guitar is "too heavy" in the mix and drags ithe 'lightness' down. Well played / recorded sounds... just balance it out better. That's MHO.But yeah, I'd give it a shot

I hear what you are saying Vikki - and Dave - and I'm going to send it. I unfortunately do not have the original files due to my failure to properly label backed up material. I mean they are somewhere in a huge pile of discs and drives, and they could easily be recreated if needed, but not in time to find and remix before tomorrow. I was going to send Herbert in for the quirky factor, but it may be too dark. I will post it here and get your opinions on that one too, if you all don't mind.Damn, it feels good to be back on the boards again! The two songs to be considered:Don't let them get you downHerbert

I like it Anne! you may be able to roll off around 250k and boost at around 2k to get the marimbas out a little more. This is a good track, sounds like a forward to me -

Nice Job Anne!!Only nit is the hangover on the end - would recommend cutting the last two quarter notes at the end so you have bu bu bu bu instead of bu bu bu bu - bu bu. Does that make sense? Just a little suggestion.Kitz

I've never had a review get done sooner than 1 week after the deadline. It's 'sub-optimal' practice, but I sometimes submit a mix that is, how shall we say it, cr@p, and fix it up after the deadline. IMO, it's better than missing an opportunity for a forward. This is a fun piece -- some real cool arrangement ideas! The first few bars of high strung guitar sound like they were pitch and or tempo shifted a bit foo far. Mabye that's the effect you're going for?Best of luck with this!
