SEX! DRUGS! VIOLENCE!

Post by billg » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:43 pm

My attempt at a Tarantino movie in song form. It has sex, drugs, and graphic violence and will never be any good for anything . . . another contender for my cd full of fillers. It's looking like it's going to be a triple boxed set the way I'm going-This is called "That's The Way To Do It" and i would be surprised if there isn't somebody who would find the song offensive. This is a first mix but I don't think hear anything I should change except one flat vocal near the end. (one place that's worse than my normal flat vocals http://www.billgaunce.com/song/109

Bill, That song is frickin awesome! I absolutely loved it. Wow. I might buy it off your site if it's forsale. I really dug the groove you established right from the beginning. Drums/bass sounded good to me. The harmonica might be a little hot, but no real nits here man. Obviously I'm not a production guru. I'm more about the song. And let me tell you I'm a fan. You'd better put that one on an album Andy

Here Andy, this link SHOULD be to a free download-Matt, we're on the same page . . . I've got some of that Turkey/Honey stuff that my wife bought. It gives a little relief from this sinus mess. Heck, a little more & i'll feel like partying

Absolutely love it Bill !!! Fantastic lyric.Great feel and atmosphere.Great instruments, especially Harp. What bass do you use.Like some of the others I would like to hear some harmonies, female, black gospel, easier said than done.I believe Dave K does a very good falsetto if somebody grabs his walnuts!!!! Michael.

Thanks Dave & Ellen! Michael, you'll dig it, a lot of bang for the buck . . . heck, the strings were 30% of the cost of the damn bass!Dean, I thought you were disturbed anyway BTW- A new (final) mix is up. I shortened it by :25 & cleaned up a few things I hope. Geez, I'm almost afraid one of you are gonna say that i somehow screwed it up!

Young man, you should be ashamed of yourself! Why I never! That's the problem, I wish I had - written it, that is.No nits at all. Wonderful capture. Very balanced. Great song. Pure delivery. It's a little too long for a TAXI submission, because I get the idea that they can't think on their feet.Someone will pick this up. You did a very nice job on this one. Thanks for sharing, Wig

I guess my lack of confidence from hearing so much great music here got me a bit paranoid and I'm sorry.Warren PM'd me and explained a lot and I think I understand a little more now. I hope I didn't sound snotty cus I was only trying to find out if some of you incredibly professional musicians are making any money at this and whether TAXI.com is helping you.I guess it is hard to be special in music today. From what I've read there seems to be a lot of people who are knocking on the door, so to speak and that's encouraging. What's discouraging is that I think you all are so much better than I am and I don't understand why you're not rolling in dough. You're all so good.Anyway, I hope there's no hard feelings and I thank both you and Warren for your kind words and your help. I hope I can learn enough from you and the rest of this incredible crowd to eventually make the grade.RubyHi Ruby!Just breaking in here to this nice conversation. One thing you'll learn... most of us don't take ourselves too seriously... LOTS of playful kidding, ribbing, etc. As evidenced by me posting a pic of myself with my new braces and then having several of my forum buddies posting a picture of "Jaws" from the James Bond movies. It's all in good fun. So you're free and clear of any forum crimes. Just relax and have fun. I don't know that there's a definitive answer to the relationship between talent and income. One thing is "longevity", not in terms of age of how long anyone has been playing but how long has a person REALLY been trying, treating it like any other legitimate business venture. It is difficult, especially as an artist or songwriter for an artist. But film/tv has a lot of opportunities and there's a pretty good number of forum members that have had or do have music on television and in films and have made either a little bit or a fair amount of money. Those that don't (yet)... it's that magic word, "yet". I don't know about BillG's placements but he's got music in various libraries, all of us agree that he's an awesome talent and so it's just a matter of time. Maybe none of us will be buying beachfront property in Malibu but we all (including you) have a fair shot at making some money with our music if we adopt a long-term approach and keep pushing ourselves and each other gently forward (Credit: Traveling Ed ).FWIW,Dave
