This an attempt at country. My last few tries were way off the mark. Please tell me what you think of this one. Please overlook my lame singing voice too. I tried to follow your link, but it isn't working for me. I'm not sure why. Can you put a link to your Taxi page or try another link? I'll check back later.Andy

I modified the post and added the link to my taxi page. I should have just done that to begin with. I need to figure out how to make it download instead of stream. Thanks,Jim

Hi Jim. The streaming link worked fine for me. Can you tell us your intended usage for the song? Is it a demo for an artist pitch? If so, who? Planned for TV/film placement? Are you the artist? Is the track in its final state? I presume not, since you asked that we overlook the vocal. The info above would make it easier to comment on the song, which I'm happy to do. Thanks.Vince

Jim, Like Vince said, that info will allow us to provide much more useful feedback. The song is very catchy. It's got kind of a Tom Petty/CCR feel. It doesn't seem like commerical country to me. Maybe alternative country...but certainly classic rock. I write almost exclusively for commerical country music listings and everybody talks about the "high bar" and they aren't kidding. I've learned that the songs pitched to commerical Nashville Artists has to pretty much fit the commerical country "mold" not just to get forwarded but for a publisher to even look at it. However, in Film/Tv and some indie labels they are looking for more edgy stuff (which happens to be my taste) and so there is a need there. Especially in the alt. country and indie sounds. I believe those genres are the future of commerical music. I can't really comment on production, I have my demos professionally done.Andy

Hey all, thanks for the comments. It's not in its final state as I really need a singer at least. I also plan to re-play the rhythm guitar parts. Other than that there isn't much else I can personally do to it. I was thinking of pitching it to an artist or publisher listing but don't have anything specific in mind. Thought I would just keep an eye out for something that might fit. A pro demo is not out of the question either, but only if the feedback is positive enough. At this point, I just wanted to see what everyone thinks before I spend any more time on it.

Andy,One question. Do you really see this as classic rock, or was that a typo? Thanks,Jim

Hey Jim,This is a catchy tune, but I would put it in the Americana category as country these days is pretty much what you hear on country radio and that's it. That fiddle lick gives it a real hoe-down feel that probably wouldn't fly in Nashville these days, but I'll bet if you took that out and sent the song to a Nashville studio like Jimi's (nashvilledemostudio.com) they could do what it needs to make it true country for the current market. Nevertheless, as an Americana tune it works as is and I don't see any need to change it unless you want to. I do think I'd get rid of that fiddle loop though (or just use it sparingly) as it sounds too much the same every time.Cam

Jim, It wasn't a typo, but maybe my definition of classic rock is different. Classic rock to me is CCR, Tom Petty, Jim Croce, Doobie Brothers, etc. Take away that fiddle lick and that's what I'm hearing. And I think Cam said it, Americana is probably the better terminology. Is this in a minor key? That maybe why I hear it that way. Commerical Country music is always in a major. But I wouldn't change the style, personally. I love this the way it is. There are a lot of American/Alternative Country listings, and you don't even need that fiddle lick to meet those standards.Again, this is a real catchy song.Andy

Hey, thanks again for all the feedback. I think I understand what you mean and appreciate the input. I can certainly live with it being similar to Tom Petty and CCR - two of my favorites for sure. I also like the idea of dropping the fiddle. At first I thought it was kind of cool, and I actually liked the hoe-down feel of it. It does really limit the potential of the song however. I'm going to try to replace it with some nice guitar licks and see how that goes. Jim
