I don't kmow much about country music except that modem country sounds too much like mainstream pop for my taste. Your tune is a toe tapper and indeed catchy and more of what I would call country than todays mainstream. My 02

I would take the input from experienced country writers over mine. This may sound like a tough review-- it's just constructive, honest feedback. You have some good musicianship here and if things weren't so damn competitive I wouldn't be so tough. You mentioned that it was "an attempt at country". I'm sure you've been around here enough to know how high the bar is for country. It's not an easy thing to just "attempt"... But if you want to pursue it, you have to start somewhere-- write some songs, hear what reasonably qualified people think, and write and write again... Go for it with everything you got if that's what you want! With the bar so high, you have to come up with something very unique lyrically, or you'll get a very fast "click". It doesn't matter if you hear stuff on the radio that makes you scratch your head. You have to be many times better to get noticed. The verse melody probably isn't interesting enough. Subject-wise, since songs that say this have been done a lot before, you need an extremely creative and special approach to it for the song to get interest. You have some good lines in there.I wouldn't start both the verses and chorus with the same lyric line. It would be better to introduce the scenario and come in to the chorus with something special that ties into what you introduced in the verse. My thought would be to focus on the song itself, not making a country arrangement (violin, etc)... Work on improvements, record a simple G & V that shows the melody and structure as well as having the vocal clear and up-front for lyrics. If an A&R person or screener feels you tried to force a song that wasn't ready yet to sound country using arrangement, you lost them from the get-go.It's not easy but if you could come up with a more interesting way to say it was the best day of your life and make that the hook in the chorus, you'd be better off. Then you could build the verses to support that. Don't think I don't think this isn't good... It's just that "good" isn't good enough... Think about getting a pro-review on it from taxi or outside service. It might be worth $20 or $25... I did that a few times recently and I was glad I did. Best,Casey

okay, so this may sound a little harsh, and please don't take it the wrong way...i completely agree with what Casey said, and to add to it, here was my first thought: "This sounds like someone trying to do a stereotypical country song...but as if they're making fun of the genre or something." What i mean is, it SOUNDS country by the feel and instruments, but it's almost like a parody of a country song or something because it's so...uh...not that great. Please know I mean that in the nicest way, and if you want to write country, you've got to keep at it and study successful country hits and really get into the nuts and bolts of it. Don't just think you can stick a fiddle and a certain beat into some "country sounding" lyrics and make a good country song. erin

Once again, thanks for taking the time to leave comments and I certainly don't take offense to any of them. I know "it's a long way to the top" whether you wanna rock & roll or not. That's why I trust you all to give it to me straight. If it sounds like I was trying to parody country, that's obviously a problem I need to hear about. I wasn't of course - just trying to make the song sound fun, not trying to make fun. Lyrics are always a struggle too, for me at least so I will take your comments, go back to the drawing board, and give it one more shot. Thanks,Jim

HI......not a country dude but think this should be your chorus...Chorus 1It was the best day of my lifeThe day we said "I do"Simple wedding in the countryAnd a Vegas honeymoon.... the last 4 lines don't add anything to the story...Chorus 2 ? ... sing with the verse melody, not chorus.... Verse 3...I like it....Peace, Geo
