Drama
Hearing all the great orchestral stuff everyone has been doing of late I was inspired to put together a track for the drama listing due this week. Here's the listing:DRAMATIC INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a successful Production Music Library/Publisher that has signed and placed tons of TAXI writers/songs over the years. This company will be looking for material that would be great for Feature Films and TV/Radio/Commercials. There are no arrangement or instrumentation restrictions, but the overall tone must be compelling/dynamic and engaging. High drama, emotional pull and climactic build will all be key factors. The performances/production must be excellent and the recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). Pieces should not exceed 4 min. in length and they need to have clear endings - no fades. Please submit one to three pieces online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than January 28, 2009. TAXI #Y090128INHere's the track:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ueFeedback and input is welcome. It's has been fun and challenging to hear everyone utilize some new toys to develop orchestra chops. My new toys on this track are Project SAM Symphobia and Vir2 Elite orchestral Percussion. Thanks for listening.Chuck

Re: Drama
Hi Chuck, The tune is cool but IMO the mix seems quite distant. I like the intensity and the syncopation but the room doesn't sound real enough to me. Maybe could use a little more processing in the presentation. The instrumentation is very well done and IMO the notes are all there but everything seems to be sitting back in the mix. You might try doubling up the tracks and using a little delay on the double to seperate the sound. Don't get me wrong - I think the tune is great - listened 4 times but the sound could be a little more in your face and spread out a little more for that dramatic appeal. I think you're really close here but a little tweaking to give that extra ummph in the mix would help.Hope this helps,Kitz

Re: Drama
Chuck,I heard a little of what Kitz was mentioning, but mainly in the transition sections. The parts where you are using the bass drum to highlight seem plenty strong. Now, I'm not a master orchestrator, so I'm commenting mostly as a pure listener--those stronger parts seemed to need more work in tying the lines together. You have lots going on "on the beat", but not much happening between the hits (and it sounds a bit quantized at times). I imagine that's intentional, but as far as acting as the dominant part of the composition, it's a little jarring--like you should save that for the climax parts of the song only. Also, the slow rise cymbal might be mixed a little loud.HTH!Vince

Re: Drama
Vince and Kitz,Thanks for listening and the input.I've tried to get in the habit of finishing a track before the deadline to be able to have time to "live with the track" before submission.I am going to work some with the final eq and light compression.Vince, I did not do much quantizing, Project SAM Symphobia has multis set up (splits and layers) So one track of midi information is triggering multiple instruments with their proper ranges. I think this is why it may seem to be quantized.I did augment the layers with some East West strings and brass. Thanks again for listening.Chuck
