Pop? Country? Dated??
Hi guys,Tim here again, a very different style for me this time, but here is a track that I wrote a number of years ago that I'm not particularly fond of, but I've been 'assured' that it is definitely a commercial product. It's called 'More than you could know'.I am totally unsure as to what genre it is, I could hear it done in a country way, but currently it's more pop or adult contemporary.Could really do with your thoughts, many thanks.http://www.taxi.com/timjonesLyrics I'm sitting here,Wondering if you're about to call me up tonight,I'm all alone,I didn't plan what I would say before I came along,But I wish I had, More than you could know Baby when I close my eyes,I see the way you looked that night,And it hurts me,Oh it hurts me,More than you could know,I don't know why,But you make me feel so good inside, you're the reason that I breathe day and night,Without you (girl)My world would come tumbling down,Turn my life upside down, Please, baby call me now,The clock ticks on and I'm thinking I should come around,But I wish I had,More than you could know, I know all the secrets you've been hiding,And it don't mean a thing to me,There's a place inside my heart,That's where you're going to stay,

Tim,Since you didn't list the title, it took me a little time to figure out which song to listen to: More Than You Could Know.Nice production here. Drums sound especially good. Well sung. Definitely not country in its current version. And nowadays "pop" seems to mean either "teen" or "urban". Maybe adult contemporary. It sounds like an '80's ballad to me. Still useful, though, as you'll see TAXI listings for exactly that era fairly frequently. The verse melody is a little choppy...could flow better. The chorus starts hooky, but dips a little in power by the time you get to the title line.Hope you get some other opinions!Vince

Cheers vince, some very relevant comments there! It's hard for me to be passionate about the song as I just don't like it too much anymore, but saying that, I think there is some potential there...somewhere!

Currently... I don't know any artist who would sing this..unless you have some very prominent connections, it's going to be a hard pitch, just my opinion though, I listen to a lot of radio stationsIt does sound like an 80's ballad and what radios want are uptempo stuff.. The lyric's just aren't fresh enough for me, I will check your other songs out!

I agree totally, the song did orignally sell to Sony in Europe about 6 years ago so I was really pleased with that, but you're right. I can't think of anyone who would want to sing this nonsense

Tim, It is very 80's ballad. But I think this song could be turned into a country song. But I'm not sure you could use the same track. Commerical country nowdays is what I call Blue Collar Pop. Melody is very important and this song has some of those characteristics. The lyrics would need to be reworked for country, they would need to be more descriptive. The chorus should remain fairly neutral. For instance in the first verse you should almost describe what happened "last night" not just say you're thinking about it. Vince is right about the chorus melody. It starts out great but it gets a little uninteresting towards the end. Could it be a country song, yes. Is it close? No. Pop? Emmmm...pop isn't about ballads anymore. Maybe AC/easy listening Dated? yes.Andy

Hi andy, Nice to meet you, well at this point then, is there anybody out there with more of a handle on Country music that would like to collaborate on this track?Being from the Birmingham in the UK, I don't overly trust my judgement on all things Country! So, anybody fancy a challenge? I played all of the instruments and sang it if that helps?
