Another Blue D-a-y

Post by Casey H » Mon Jan 19, 2009 3:25 am

I had posted lyrics for comments on lyrics lover before. Here is a VERY ROUGH concept demo by a friend. The sound quality might not be great because it was played a little fast and we slowed it down electronically. Also, the vocals might be pitchy here and there...How does it feel to you all around? It's early so everything is still up for grabs. Does it seem like it could fit singer-songwriter?www.taxi.com/caseyh"Another Blue D-a-y (Very Rough Concept Demo 20)" Thanks!!! I hope to be back to do some peer reviews today. Life's been pretty busy... CaseyAnother Blue D-a-y © Charles P. H*rowitz Verse 1Haven’t slept for a month nowMy eyes don’t wanna closeI see you lying next to meAs if it were realityI know I should be movin’ onI’m not very far alongChorusOh another blue d-a-yOh it’s a blue dayWith my heart in recoveryMy brain stuck on a memory Time moves slowly by On a blue dayVerse 2To err is humanForgiveness is divineBut after all my big mistakesWhy should you act like a saintNo answer on the telephoneAre you there but not aloneChorusBridge When you needed meI was somewhere elseOnly a fool wouldn’t seeJust how you feltInstrumentalVerse 3Take it one day at a timeThat’s what people sayEvery day I try againPut on the smile and pretendSomeday I’ll get over you Till then everything looks blueChorus

Casey,Sounds pretty good for a very rough concept demo. Probably a little folkish to qualify as modern singer-songwriter. Hard to say though, as it's all in the production nowadays. I hear this guitar and vocal style show up in films quite a bit--it's now seen as quirky and quaint, apparently, so there's still a market for it.Vince

Thanks VinceYea, I'm not quite sure where it really fits genre-wise but many singer-songwriter listings of late referenced older singer-songwriters like Rufus Wainwright, Elliott Smith, and others. We may try a version not finger-picked to see how it feels.Appreciate the listen,Casey

Casey, I think the song is great. It'd be nice if you could post the lyrics again, but the chorus was really well done...I didn't need lyrics for that, it's still in my head. I think you might get away with a singer-songwriter in some listings...and Vince is right, it's all about production. It seems like the song is loosing importance and the production is gaining it. I like the lyrics a lot. All around memorable tune.Andy

Casey this is a really good song! I think you should use the finger picking style and maybe even throw in some more elements to firmly cement it into a rootsy Americana thing . . . like dobro OR maybe even banjo. At least if you did that it would firmly plant it into a genre without a doubt. You can always experiment with different treatments but to me it's the perfect song for this -

hi casey--i like this much, have nothing for you on the negative, just production (my specialty--LOL!) but as a rough i hear the entire package and like it! sounds as is very Folk to me, however with a different production, SS may fit as well...great job,all the best, warrenps: ah yes, just read billyg up there--he hit it--BANJO would pump this up, though i think take it clear outta the SS rhelm, but clearly into solid Folk and also Americana--two genres in one!xoxo

Really nice vibe Casey...lyric, vocal, & playing are really well done!I can't offer advice to move the song up or even sideways, unfortunately...but I'm still cheering from the stands.
