AXLE -- FINAL MIX? Comments welcome!

Post by zoom » Fri Jan 16, 2009 7:15 am

Hey all!I was working on this piece before this listing came out, but was wondering if you think it fits. This tune still is a rough as I work on dynamics and mixing, but all the parts are there (I think). So, other than the standard, "Do you think it fits?" question, I'll also ask you to comment on whether or not it needs more melodic, rhythmic, or instrumental development. Does it go far enough? The song is AXLE (Rough)Here is the link... downloadable from there if you want!NEW MIX AVAILABLE CALLED "AXLE (FINAL)"To hear online: http://www.taxi.com/patellweinUPTEMPO DANCE/ELECTRONICA SONGS and INSTRUMENTALS in the range of The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy, The Crystal Method, etc. are needed by the Project Director at a well-established Los Angeles-based Music Production Company for film and TV licensing. Amazing vocal delivery (both male or female vocals are fine), infectious grooves, great songwriting/instrumentation, and outstanding production are all essential. Lyrically, more universal themes are better and please be sure to stay away from elements that will prevent your song from being forwarded (e.g. uncleared samples). Your writing and production must be stellar... bottom line is that they want new material that’s going to grab them by the neck and demand their attention. Thanks for your feedback!Pat

Hey there....Sounds very good IMOI think you're on the right track in terms of feel, but the wording of this listing looks like they may prefer vocals even though it's listed as either.....I'd work a little more on the way you're using your breaks...silence can be very powerful...and sneaking into the changes a little more so it's not quite so predictable may make it a little fresher...hope this helps, vtbpps. thanks for listening on my post, too.....

I think it sounds great, sounds superb on my computer speakers, actually.I'm not sure it's fast enough for dance? I'm not the authority on the genre for sure, but I'm thinking a bit faster for uptempo and less laid back? "...grab them by the neck" is what the listing states...just my $0.02 though!I can totally see it as a CSI "gathering clues with the blue light" scene...it totally pulls me along. Very engaging track zoom!

(and never a problem to post a comment when I have the time )Yeah, they may skew toward vocals, though with some of the groups mentioned it seems as though the lyrics are an after thought at times. If something comes to me before the deadline I might give it a shot... though I'm not gonna sweat it too much.Good call on the breaks, and as I get the mix going a little more I'm sure I'll be changing it up here and there to un-predictify it a bit.

Very engaging track zoom!Glad you liked it Devin! As for tempo, I can see your point... though I think when it gets going the intensity of the groove is strong enough to fit with the a las. I actually just tried it at faster tempos, and could only make it about 10bpms faster without having it burst at the seams. But, adding about 5bpm did make noticeable improvement!

Liked this a lot. You seem to have a strong handle on imaging in the stereo field, movement is very engaging. This seems (at least for me) to be a big part of keeping my interest with this type of music. As was mentioned, i also heard quite a few uses where this would work as a cue or backdrop, etc.Structurally, i dont know enough about this type of music to really comment on... All i know i listened the whole way through, i started bobbing and it energized me as i was doing some work on the computer! CheersJamie

If anyone has on opinion or insight on that, I'd love to hear it!

zoom,Nice job here, with lots of changes and interesting things happening throughout. I had the same intial comment about the tempo--seems it could be faster. I also think the screeners are going to make a decision based on the first 30-45 seconds.Concerning vocals, this seems like the type of song where you could have a heavily stylized/processed refrain lines that just comes in every once in a while, kind of like they do with house/trance remixes.Go for the a la's--that's the screeners scorecard!Vince

Hey Zoom....Love this... if this is rough I gotta a ways to go....My comment on the tempo thing is maybe use a more driving feel after the heavy break sections... anchor it with a driving kick/bass groove... really get the heads bobbing!!Mix sounds awesome on cheap PC speakers...Peace, Geo

Yo zoom,Nice piece, in my honest opinion - not right for the listing. It's not aggressive enough I think... I might not be wording it right - I think you need some more DIRRRRRRTTTTYYY sounds in it... It's an excellent piece as is for say a game, or sci-fi film/t.v. show etc... but I don't think it's aggressive enough ALA Prodigy and so forth. My suggestions:1) More dirty sounds/synths2) BIGGER drums, if not, try squeeze in a real semi-high pitched snare sample, and a thicker kick, to give it more presence in the drums.3) try add some more REAL elements, ala guitar or something.Just my £0.01.Hope you're well.Take CareB
