Re: "A Day Out" - New Acoustic Piece
great natural tone, and feel. Very relaxing, and soothing. Good job here. I thought id suggest adding a very light percussion/coonga/etc., and maybe a xylophone or marimba to accent and harmonize a little so its not so repetitive.. I dunno, might be cool to try out as long as it doesnt take away from the natural and simplicity of the piece. Good control in your guitar playing. Cheers,Jamie

Dave, nice uplifting, snappy piece! The ending felt sudden and I'd like a bit less headroom but great feel and performance... wta
Music is like oxygen, you can live without it but not for very long...

Dave,Congrats on the new axw--glad to see you are putting it to good use. I also heard the somewhat unnatural damping. I'd recommend you playing through this without worrying about the buzzing, then see what EQ and de-essing can do to help. I think you'll get a better flow that way.I liked it best when you have the two panned guitars playing harmony lines--very sweet there.Vince

hey Dave, congrats on getting a song done with your new toy! Along with the advice of the others I was going to add that it seemed to end out of the blue . . . then I saw that Willie T. even beat me to that one!I look forward to hearing this one after you've 'messed" with it a bit. You gonna submit it to something?

Nice piece Dave.Definatley has that ovation sound. Rich and smooth. I almost bought one recently but opted for the new Dean jumbo. I have an ovation mandolin that is really nice.Nice tune.Matt

Re: "A Day Out" - New Acoustic Piece
Thanks for all the feedback fellas.I'll be playing around with it Monday. That ending, yeah, wasn't sure what to do there.Maybe should let it fade out naturally.Bill: it's not for any particular listing, but I'll take a look through themfor "simple acoustic pieces" once I'm happy with it.And Willie, can you elaborate on that "headroom".I really need help on that area of recording; normalising, compression, limiting etc. Any specific suggestion?
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Way to go Dave!!Very nice!! I here the short beat 4, however, to my ears it does give the piece a little lift that may go missing when you smooth it out. Just a thought. I like the melody line - this song has personality!!There outta be a movie out there somewhere just waiting for a little tune like this!! On the ending I might recommend you simply take the last melodic phrase and do it again. You know kind of like a turn around. The part that starts around 1:29 - just repeat that and then let the last chord sustain. You might consider adding a harmonica in a few spots or even accordion in a few spots. Just my 2c.Kitz
