Let it Go. Pop or Rock?
Hi folks,My first post of 2009. A late happy new year to you all.I just finished my song for this week (I publish a new one every week). I am also becoming less attached to tweaking the hell out of it before "releasing" it and I like the results.I would be grateful for comments on the song "Let It Go" at my songvault profile page and some opinions as to what you think in terms of genre etc. I often don't know what "box" to put my songs in.Track is here: http://www.songvault.fm/artists/boy_at_heart.htm

ideascapes. Thanks for taking the time to listen. My intenet connection here is a bit slow and it happens to me sometimes too. Should be OK in the US though.amp. Thanks for the comments. I am still getting used to my new mixing environment and the bottom end is the most tricky, so this is excellent feedback.Seeing as I do a new recording every week for my website I am getting songs done from scratch in 3 days now. I am determined to keep the time down to this or less and still raise the quality of the recordings and performances. Thanks again.

Ok, worked this time. Don't know if you remixed, but the drums sound plenty loud now. Think I heard some noise on the guitar track during the intro.I'm also not sure how to characterize "Let it Go" on genre, but it sounds really good. Some pretty original sounding things in the arrangement and song form--nice surprise there. Not sure if you wanted feedback on the lyric, but best to post that if you do.What's your intention on your one-per-week song publishing? Artist career? Song pitches? TV/Film? Would be nice to know so as to offer more feedback.Vince

Really cool intro riff; vaguely reminescant of the Stones 'Beast of Burden'. Definitely some hiss and 60 cycle on it. Sounds like the kind of stuff that pops up after tracking when you plugin a compressor. I think you might have some clipping on the 2buss at the choruses as well.Great tune, really cool bgvs. A Stones vibe with a different drummer and singer(s). Best of luck with this track!

ideasscapes: I haven't changed anything at the link I provided, but I have a tweaked version done. I can't upload a new version without deleting the original, so I don't want to create confusion.Good question about my intentions with The Weekly Songcast. I started it a year ago as a way to push myself to write lyrics as well as music (prior to that I was only writing music).I'm still finding my way as far as what I want to do with it. Ideally I'd like to go the independent recording artist route, but I'm also very open to selling my songs to other artists/placements. Any way I can get the music making money for me really. In any event I do it because I just love doing it, so if my income comes from elsewhere, as long as I have the time to always do what I do now then I'm happy! teleblaster: I have a very unpredictable electrical supply here in my place (I'm in Thailand). It sometimes happens. I didn't think it was too bad, but if it turns out to be a problem I'll just redo it.There's no clipping, at least not digital clipping. I am using an "analog" saturation type plugin though, so maybe you can hear that. Thanks for the comments too. Much appreciated.

I like this! I think there is somewhat of a retro vibe here that would make this lean into the rock category. I agree that there is a Stones feel . . . which is cool by me!

Liked the song...lots of mix issues with some hum and distortion...cymbals are a bit loud but all this could be related to mp3 compression.Does have an "old school" vibe at the start, but I would put it in the "Alt Pop" genre.

Re: Let it Go. Pop or Rock?
Thanks for the input guys. I have tamed the cymbals a little and upped the kick and bass a tad too, but not on theversion I linked to in my original post. The tweaked mix is here.If the majority of feedback is that it is too distorted then I may have to go back and clean it up. In fact if I were to invest in proper mastering then I would leave off the processing I have applied on the mix buss, so if I go that route it will be cleaner... and better!Yes my leaning was more toward Pop or maybe Power Pop
