happy accident maybe . . .
last night I had another idea for the 60s garage band listing so I threw some parts down quick so I wouldn't forget it. Got up this morning and listened and (maybe I'm nuts) but I thought it was cool as is so I spent a couple hours trying to mix it. Somehow I lost site of the listing and it's not 60's garage rock . . . not sure what it is but I think I like it. Anyone want to help me figure out what the heck it is now? It's called "Would You Stay?"http://www.billgaunce.com/song/104

damn, you pound this out in a night--my answer is 60's for sure--and where does that guitar style/sound come from? damn i remember that, but who is it? please refresh this old dudes memory...anyway, if this is your first cut or so, i aint gunna comment on the mix....i can hear all the parts just fine--nice bass solo btw you bass dude! you will i know "quality" them...but the hard part (well, for some of us mortals...LOL) is getting the basic tune down--every part i hear is spot on the mark--don't think you lost site of the listing at all--think it was more of you were working on it and made it your own, but the style is there man...structure is sound and again, oozes 60's--it stays, (oh, wasn't most of the starts of these style tunes in garages?? or are they just talkin' about the who????xoxowarren

hey Warren, The intro and verses are a nod to "Heart Full Of Soul" and "Evil Hearted You" both by the Yardbirds. I think the chorus is where I lost sight of the listing. I dunno, maybe not. I'll submit it anyway.off to shop!

Dang Bill, I wish accidents like this happened more often to myself...vox totally suits this song.I'd go for a bit longer instrumental break between chorus 1 and verse 2...one bar of your riff maybe?Nice work, again. Still singing the chorus!P.S. Good luck with the rugby match shopping trip.

I was gonna say Yardbirds right off!Chorus reminds me of a Question Mark and the Mysterions thing. Maybe a B side to 96 tears?Ive always thought youd be able to pull off some Yardbirds. My fav 60's band actually. Of course Im a huge Jimmy Page fan.M~

Yeah, I'm in a agreement...it's a definite Yardbirds fit....I like everything about it, Bill, but your vocals sound a little fuzzy, or maybe it's the background vocals behind you that are distracting me...all and all, it's a great song!

Gee, Bill. Slow down; you're putting us to shame here. Dude, that is a hot track. It's sixties, but could even be neo-retro if you dry/brighten the vocals, punch up the kick & snare, and apply the 125-250 peaked multiband compression so popular today.Man, can I just hang out and bask in your glow for a bit?

thanks all! I had a chance this evening to tweak the mix a little more. Gonna have to leave it & move on. jonathanm, I did end up brightening things and bringing up the drums and bass. It's still pretty 60's sounding. Maybe after the holidays & this listing has expired I'll find some time to pick your brain & give it a neo-retro tweak!

Bill,I'd call it a good song. You might want to rethink this lyric:Would you stay if I wrote this sent it off in a letter? The whole 'letter' thing fell flat on me, It hit me like you were reaching a little to far for a rhyme here. And maybe a few too many 'just's at the end of the bridge. Other than that I really liked it.Dean
