Submission advice, please
Since I'm terrible at picking matches to submissions for my own songs, I'm hoping to get some advice on this one, as well as any comments on the mix (or anything I can fix easily). I hired drums and vocals on this, so those are probably off the table as far as changes. Thanks in advance!Vince---------------------------------------------------------------NEW LISTING - AAA/MODERN ROCK/POP SONGS WITH VOCALS in the range of Maroon 5, Matchbox Twenty, Train, Vertical Horizon, Goo Goo Dolls, Tonic, etc. are sought after by an established Music Publisher in Los Angeles. This company specializes in Film/TV and has signed & secured placements for many TAXI members. All tempos will be considered and male vocals are preferable - but female vocals are fine if the style is appropriate. No covers for this one, just great original songs in the style of the referenced artists. Lyrics should be universal enough as to apply to avariety of situations/scenes/characters. Performances need to be excellentand the recordings must be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must bereceived by January 16, 2009. I think it is perfect for the listing. And I am horrible at matching my own songs to listings too.The singer is using that effect that is so common in rap stuff........not sure what it is.Anyway I think it is a great production and a solid song. Definitely a forward.

That has a really great sound to it, production-wise.What is your process as far as taking a song from idea to this point?

Great work! I say 10:1 it's a foward!!At first I wasn't sure if the chorus was strong enough musically- thought it felt a little pre-chorus-y... After a few listens I can't get the hook out of my head... Great, top to bottom... Casey

Hi Vince, This is not my genre - I had a listen and I just wanted to say I think it's excellent. Production is great. Only one thing stepped out to me and that is that the lyrics are extremely simplistic - and yet I had to go back and read them a second time to understand what they are actually saying. But that might be spot-on for the genre, I'm not familiar with the ala's. I could definately hear this in a movie setting. I enjoyed it. Georgie

Hey Vince,A good match for the listing, I think. Beautiful melody. I like the lyrics -- slightly dark. I'm a sucker for that.My only suggestion would be to see how it sounds if you bring the harmonies up just a tad during the chorus. Hope you get the forward. I think the song has very good chance.Randy

Hey Vince, this is a cool song! I think it's a pretty good fit. My only thought is that if the guitar was a bit more sparse (maybe some "open" chords) instead of just straight chugging in the verses it would fit more along the lines of Train, Goo Goo Dolls, & Matchbox Twenty. Everything else with the performance & vocals sound right on to me.

Re: Submission advice, please
mccanty (I don't usually call people by their last names), idea to completion on this one was pretty quick: I had a vibe for verse and chorus and sang the lyric along to the sketch of music. The bridge was more "considered", but still happened pretty fast. I had programmed drums and sang a guide vocal, but hired those out for the final mix as I know my limitations! The "rap effect" you're refering to is auto-tune on the vocals. It's actually used only sparingly here, as the singer just has that natural sound in his voice.Casey, I know what you mean about the "pre-chorusey" sound here--valid point. This was just a case of me not messing with a song that sounded "done" when I wrote it. It won a monthly song contest on Broadjam.com recently, so I think it's getting a fair reception so far.Georgie and Randy, guilty on the simple, yet slightly dark, lyric. Again, I usually tweak like crazy but resisted on this one. And I messed with the harmony volume over several versions. Still not decided...billg, good idea on the guitar open chords. I'll probably try that. Thanks all!Vince

Re: Submission advice, please
I think this is really well done. My only thought is that I wanted the chorus to lift a bit more, especially because some of the bands mentioned in the listing typically sing high big choruses. But if you've had success with the song already, then it may not be necessary. Great job!!

Wow Vince, Great song. I think this works for this listing. I'm predicting a forward. Great vox and great guitar work. It's definitely Adult Contemp/Pop sounding. Bravo.Andy
