"Happy Instrumental" fit?
If I cleaned this song sketch up a bit, do you think it could fit this listing?Should I add something else, or does it meet the "spare" criteria as is?I can throw some mandolin on it, in keeping with the "Grateful Dev" theme...http://www.thepondstudio.ca/GDinst.mp3(sometimes takes a second to start the song)NEW LISTING -- HAPPY/UPBEAT/FUN INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a successful Production Music Library/Publisher that has signed and placed tons of TAXI writers/songs over the years. This company will be looking for material that would be great for Feature Films and TV/Radio/Commercials. The tone can be quirky and comedic, light and airy, bouncy and silly, etc. Primarily, the focus will be on spare instrumentation that features clever dynamics and melodic moments". The range is wide here stylistically, with the focus being on the overall tone. Nothing dark, dramatic or moody for this one - only happy and fun. There are no arrangement restrictions here, but be sure the instrumentation isn't too thick or lush. The performances/production must be excellent and the recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). Pieces should not exceed 4 min. in length and they need to have clear endings - no fades. Please submit one to three pieces online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than February 6, 2009. TAXI # Y090206IN

Re: "Happy Instrumental" fit?
devin,Song loaded right away--fast Canadian servers!Sounds like a good quality recording. My recollection for these types of listings is they're looking for some lead instrument to carry a melody. You've got the bass going a little bit early on, but I don't think that qualifies. I don't get "HAPPY/UPBEAT/FUN" here--it's more meandering (tempo and feel) and don't hear much "clever dynamics and melodic moments."My guess is for this listing, you'd have to think "cartoonish." Hope you get some other opinions!Vince

Hi Devin, I agree with Vince that this probably wouldn't fit this listing as it is right now. It sounds like the backing of a song, to me, which I guess it is. I think for this listing it might need to go quite a bit faster to sound "light and airy, bouncy and silly" also doesn't sound very "sparce" already and it needs a tune!Just my thoughts on it, I hope it helps. Thanks Vince & Georgie...your thoughts are very much appreciated! You're right, this was the bed for a quick song sketch previously done....I hereby accept your calibration of it's usefulness here.

Agree with what's been said. I don't think a shuffle like this fits the image of a family walking together in the park holding hands. But, I could be wrong; wouldn't be the first time. I'd consider adding a melody instrument to this like you suggested, a mandolin would be cool.I submitted to this listing with a piece of mine; best of luck to you.Cheers

Hey, what?! Teleblaster - you submitted a piece to this listing... but the deadline is Feb 6... not till next year. Do you normally submit so early? I am kind of stunned in a way. For me, even tho I read the listings way in advance, I always seem to be putting the finishing touches on as the minute hand is ticking toward the 12... even tho I'm 8 hours ahead of CA. Even if I have a piece all ready to go, I can't bring myself to submit before the deadline date. I think I need some counselling. Georgie ...Ooooo no! I see what's happened. Tele - you submitted to the "Inspirational and Uplifting" listing (try saying that fast three times after a beer) which closed on Dec 19 (I visited your thread). The Happy/Upbeat/Fun one in question here is a different one with a Feb 6 deadline. They are very different indeed. Now my head has stopped spinning, so you haven't submitted 6 weeks in advance. Phew! Georgie

Devin, I would offer to play "fart bass" on this for you but I already submitted one fart bass song to this listing anyway, what you need is something silly & quirky to use to add a melody . . . how about a kazoo? Seriously, I bet that would do it!

And then I spend the next 2 weeks working on the mix, updating the mp3 on my hosting site.Sorry for not reading the listing closer. The shuffle thing works fine for this listing. Now I'm off to see what I have that might fit it...Cheers,TB..

Dig something out TB and "quirk it up" for the listing! It's fun going back into the vault to see what dusty stuff can be painted over.Don't worry Warren...I won't do anything sane for this listing. Time to put my OTHER hat on for this one My good Mr. G...I would be honored to have any of your basslines, explosive or not. In fact, I've got this little bluegrass number thats about 2 days away from needing a last minute "as near stand up as you got" tone...for the low low price of... Thanks again everyone!
