60s Garage Band

Try this - take your speakers out to the garage. Crank the drums up 20db and use one mic in the middle of the room to record it to cassette...The "boom box in the middle of the room giving automatic compression and soft bottom end distortion" could be just the trick, but wouldn't it have been a portable reel-to-reel in the 60s? Do they make a plug-in for that? Nice job Bill. Dirty it up a little and your there!

Thanks you guys. I decided to completely re-do the drums and the mix. I think the drums were just too modern. Anyway, I'll have a new mix up later today. Also decided that instead of spending the time to write new lyrics I'm gonna let this one fly as is & try to spend the time I have cranking out a couple more (maybe better?) songs for this listing. Thanks again.OK, the new mix is up. I actually ran this out into an old stereo 1/4" reel to reel. It's been so long since I used it I figure it would really "crappy" up the sound but instead it actually smoothed things out! Go figure.

billg, this tune is very cool man. I love that stuff, I was a big fan of the louie, louie and gloria and stuff from the kinks and the like. Easy to learn and pretty easy to play so "in the beginning" I loved jamming these tunes! I'll tell ya straight, "So Doggone Pretty" is a hit. That harp is a perfect addition and really adds to the feel... wta

Excellent! Sounds like a classic I never got to hear! You sound a lot like Iggy Pop here...seems you were channeling the Stooges before even them. Very cool.I sort of longed for more sonic presence in the high end, more volume and crisp attack on the sound of the harp (GREAT playing). The master has a muted, muffled feel to it, but brightening and widening it up might take away that primitive AM radio garage band feel...so maybe you're spot on to the listing here.Good luck! Hey Bill,Cool tune and production! I see you're redoing the drums but overall I definitely feel that garage loose vibe. Ha that's cool you actually mixed to tape though! That harmonica sounds great!

Also narrowed the stereo imaging. hey, the listing says want something that sounds straight out of the sixties and nothing that would be on the radio today . . . (I know I got that last part right )
