Swamp Thangs?

I'm really just kind of curious to see what the reaction is to these. I've been playing around with looping ambient sounds of a swamp. I'm not really sure why. But I have an ableton grid of tons of variations and I like kind of free form writing to them in strange little jam sessions that I cut up and rearrange into little "things". Here are a couple of those. Just curious to see how you all feel about them. Like em, hate em. that is one heck of a groove you have going on "swamp thing" - I think the song is useable, maybe they won't want the swamp sounds, but I can see how the ambient noises tie in to the piece. I'm listening to string trance now. Its pretty new-age-y sounding, and would be more so without the drum kit, but then again I can't imagine it would be as interesting without the drums because I think its the contrast between the drums and strings that makes it interesting to me.I love what you did here, especially on swamp thing - the "feel" of the ambient sounds is carried into the music you wrote, imho.HTH

Definitely an interesting listen, Bryan. I say run with it--you just never know where inspiration will come from and the sounds of a swamp are as good as any, expecially judging from your cool result.Vince

hey Bryan... dude, that's a KILLER groove you got going on in Swamp Thing. Satriani fan by chance? One thing though, you may want to drop the "swamp sounds" if you're wanting to submit this to TV and Film. At the Rally this year, during one of the listening sessions a panel member was giving feedback on one of the songs being played that had some sound effects on it, I believe it was birds chirping outside, or something like that. The panelist said something to the effect of "Ditch the sound effects. If we want to use this song for an indoor scene, we can't, because of the sounds that already on there." If someone else was at the Rally and can remember what was said better than me, please feel free to correct me.So if you're wanting to pitch this to Film/TV I would drop those swamp sounds. I think it would open up more possibilities for you as far as placement opportunities go. Hope that helps,- Big Blue

Great groove on the Swamp Thing. This is purely personal preference, but the only thing I might have done differently was to find a cleaner, more present sound, for the distorted guitar that comes in after the groove.... let whatever that instrument/sound was take on more of the melody. Great grooves, though... I really enjoyed listening to both of them.
