Re: NEW INSTRUMENTAL TRY
Warren,I don't mean any disrespect to anyone here, but I think the people who say this is country or Americana don't listen to country very much. I hear more of an easy-listening, smooth jazz song here, although the twelve string guitar might be what makes some people think this has a country vibe. All I gotta say is it's really very good, and I think it's "one size fits all" sound is a plus in that film/tv listings often say they want music that can be used in any number of settings. I could hear this on the Weather Channel, Food, Garden, Travel and just about every other kind of channel short of extreme sports or the Gangsta Channel. I think it's well done and that you did a good job of reworking an existing tune.Cam

Re: NEW INSTRUMENTAL TRY
ah cam (i'll get to you in a minute my runner friend!! ha!)again, similar to a part of zoomster's comment, THANK GOD some of you guys hear what i do, as i've said.i don't give a crap what channel they put the damn tune on--or if it's "channeled" by some spooky sooth-sayers (Leo Sayer's relatives for you old-timers...)...i again agree that it fits many molds, and that is the point i've been trying to make with my "vocals-turned-to-instrumentals:) it's the melody, the harmony, the song. i aint fancy with the production stuff, and make sure that (probably i'm ALL WRONG HERE, ergo my success rate...) there aint too many bells and whistles, and i'm on top of the productions like a blanket--they don't like it, hell, maybe nobody does in the end...LOL...but hell, we do what we can for our tunes...thanks cam for the comments my friend. now RUNNER!i of course love your comments, and hell, of course i'll spend another big bill sending this to several styles, but can't really agree with the americana--but of course there is such a thing as being too close to a song....and one of these days i'll get "close" to writing one!! damn i'm in a good mood tonight, must be santa getting ready---but you are right, guitar stuff and this SHOULD get through some un-named screener that might be loaded, or wrong! ok, my new year's revolution...uh resolution, and i must say you've been haunting me man, i was AGAIN today while shaving for the first time in a couple day, looking at myself in the mirror, making stupid faces, practicing for that picture (you know i'm NOT kidding...) so it's like on the tip of my tongue....sooooo, i'll post something like cam's at the first of the year, and scare the hell outta everybody!!now a bit more serious, thank you guys so much for listening, commenting, your continued support. ALL of you! and i just approved the vocal on one of my old "slow" tunes that is now a rocker, with real instruments, real bass (billg) ane real drums, a very nice lead guitar...hell, the melody is still there, and now on to the final mix....the best, warren

Re: NEW INSTRUMENTAL TRY
Hi Warren,I really like this piece, I don't know enough about Americana, but definitely smooth jazz, yeah weather channel, tv & film.Listening I wanted to grab my soprano sax and play in back of the guitar. One thing that I would suggest ( if I might), is at 1:38, I think a rhythm change up would be great, or simply bringing everyone else down in the mix, and bringing the solo guitar up. Great job!Good luck with it!Bob

Re: NEW INSTRUMENTAL TRY
thanks bob!damn, keep that sax ready, if this don't get forwarded in a few tries, i might just take you up on that--and i LOVE soprano sax, it's my fav of the sax family, no joking...just a wonderful sound. i was so stuck on the acoustic from the original, maybe i didn't see the forest, but let's see what happens....very VERY glad you gave a listen, you are another of the talented ones on this board who are musicians, (seems like i'm the only non-musician around here...) we do what we can though.all the best bob, say hi to "virginia"...warren

Re: NEW INSTRUMENTAL TRY
Warren,You've gotten plenty of good comments and I'll try not to muddy the water here. I'm basing mine on how tightly the TAXI screeners usually characterize what they hear. Not smooth jazz--for guitar smooth jazz I'd expect to hear a Pat Metheny or George Benson style, not twelve string. Lots of slides, swing, more space. Even the acoustic melody at the beginning isn't jazzy enough. And the drum track would be way different.Definitely not country. Probably not pure Americana either, but that's probably where I'd start with my submissions. Or easy listening.Bottom line--it's professionally played/recorded and has a good, simple melody. It would likely be forwarded for something!Vince

The quality of the recording is definitely broadcast quality. It's got a nice melody and while I'm listening to it, I'm able to visualize a scene while the song is being played either behind it or on top of it. I'm not sure how good I'll be at explaining this, but if makes me think of Arizona for some reason. Or some other southwestern part of the US. I'm seeing a guy driving down an empty highway in the desert, some sort of convertible with the top down, wearing sunglasses, looking like he's straight out of the 70's. And the scene has a bit of an orange hue to it. I don't know if that helps you at all, but it's what I see when I hear your song, the vocal version that is. And I definitely agree with Vince that it should be forwarded for something. Regarding the instrumental version, like someone else said, I could totally hear that on the Weather Channel.By the way, I like the song. HTH,- Big Blue
