Am I Wrong or Am I Right?

Post by cameron » Thu Dec 11, 2008 1:56 pm

Hey Y'allHere's a little ditty I worked up last night. Yeah, I know the chorus (all two lines of it) doesn't have enough lift for mainstream country, but I kind of like it. It's more of an old-style swing tune with an AABA (verse-bridge) format. Please lemme know what you think!http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueNot sure whether to call it "Am I Wrong?" or "Am I Wrong or Am I Right?"Thanks!Cam===================You tell me that I 'aint half badthat I'm the best you ever hadthen suddenly you're slipping out of sightyou're off and on, you're here and goneI need to know where I belongjust tell me, am I wrong or am I right?Honey you're just killing me I toss and turn all nightsometimes you disappear sometimes you hold me tightI wish that I could walk awaywho knows, someday I mightjust tell me, am I wrong or am I right?InstrumentalI think there's someone else you seedon't know why you're not telling meI wish you'd lay it out in black & white this up and down, this off and on each time I turn around you're gonetell me am I wrong or am I right?InstrumentalSo excuse me if I paraphraseor I repeat the same clichesbut somehow it really aint politethis hot and cold is getting oldand aint good for the heart I'm toldthis string along is making me uptightJust when I think it's over you show up for the nightJust tell me am I wrong or am I right?

honey cam!i like this very much,"just" one suggestion and you won't do it anyway, but here goes:"just" like you did in the verse i'm reading vs. what you actually are singing, you cut out the words in your recording (and correctly so IMHO...in the first verse "that" aint there, and neither is "then"soooo,my ONLY suggestion is what you did do a time or two as it's been streaming, i'd "just"cut out the word"JUST" in the title and the chorus...to "just" "Tell Me If I'm Wrong or Am I Right"love it, great job, dig it mucho my friend, the best, warrenps: sorry i'm not drinking the 2nd straight night, so my nasty whimsical side is just oozing out all over....just told my friend willie t. he did a great job on a a very rough draft of one of my tune we may work on, but i was so damned snide about it, he may not love me anymore! nah, impossible! LOL! xoxoxops: now feel free to tell me if i'm wrong or if i'm right...wh

One of her more memorable lines "Do whatever the hell you want... you always do anyway!!" That's when I realized how hard it is to argue against the obvious. Actually, I think you're right on. I was going back and forth indecisively on this as I was recording it. Now if you can just make it so it's my idea...Erin - Thanks for the comments. No problem that you can't give an in-depth of the music. Lyrics are my weakness-- and you're not a push-over-- so I'll gladly accept your comments. Thanks! The song is not meant to be taken too seriously, so I hope that comes through.Cam

WINNER! Reminds me of the Beatles "When I'm 64" With some big band horns and slap bass line I could hear Michael Buble or Harry Connick JR crooning this out.One suggestion, in the second line could you squeeze in"that I'm almost the best you ever had"I think that would make it more comical, and set up for the rest of the tune.Once again WINNER!Dale

Dick - Thanks. I hope you enjoyed the song as much as the scotch.Dale - Good idea on the "almost" as it ties in better with the first line too. I think I'll look for another word that says the same thing in one syllable to make it less of a mouthful. Thanks again.Cam

Thanks Warren. Not getting many responses on this one. Maybe people feel sorry for me and my sorry vocals?Vince's post got me to thinking, what if I tightened this song up and used a real singer? Do you think it might work for the same singer/songwiter listing (see below)? It's a pretty broad range of material, Rufus Wainwright to Nick Drake. Whaddya think? CamMALE SINGER-SONGWRITER SONGS in the range of Bright Eyes, Rufus Wainwright, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, Patrick Wolf, etc. are needed by a large International Music Publisher/Producer looking for commercial/marketable songs for Film/TV placements. While the preference is the style of the artists referenced above, this company will also consider songs that have a more "pop" influence a la John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, etc. Lyrically, you'll want to submit songs that could apply to a variety of scenarios/characters/plots - for a wide array of placement opportunities. In order to submit, you must own 100% of your song's rights (master and sync). This company offers a variety of deals and will negotiate on a per song basis. Performances must be great and recordings need to be at Broadcast Quality (excellent home recordings should be fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than December 24, 2008. TAXI #S081224SS

Cam,I thought I had already commented on your post, but couldn't find anything. Then, when I saw you had cited my name in your last post, it really confused me! I guess you were refering to another thread. In any case, I finally listened and like the song. I think the form works--technically ABABABA, as you mentioned, but the B sections are very short and go right into modified A's. The listing asks for songs, which usually means they will publish and re-record, but goes on to state "Broadcast Quality" for direct placements, so I'll comment based on that. The vocal performance seems to match the theme of the song and is distinctive, so I'm not sure I'd get somebody else to sing. To me, the song needs more of a shuffle feel and right now the instruments sound a little too on the beat. I'd probably start addressing that by replaying the guitar with more rhythmic dynamics and shuffle. A well played bass track could also serve to swing this song a little more. And, for true broadcast quality, you'd probably need to vary the drums and toss in some fills during the turnarounds/transitions.I'd lose the "electric guitar" solo as it sound too synthy to my ears. The piano is well played and I'd look at bringing the volume up a down to highlight it during certain passages. Right now it sounds pretty present throughout. I'd also experiment with panning the acoustic guitar 30% right or so, as the piano sounds a bit lefty, mostly (Is it a stereo patch? If so, I'd consider crunching it more in the stereo field and panning left)Hope this helps and is not too critical as it's a cool song!Vince
