work tape. Quirky rock

Post by anne » Wed Dec 10, 2008 7:10 am

I have no idea why I put this together but its catchy. Not great. But very catchy. I'm wondering if its catchy to you all - I may keep working on it. The end cuts suddenly, the mix is off etc - I'm just wondering about two things:1: the guitar "sounds" (lead vs rhythm) - Are they ok together?2: throw it out or keep working on it?If nothing else, I learned how to play by tapping on my guitar neck Thanks -http://www.taxi.com/AnneHouse "QUIRKY ROCK" is the song

a link might help, but I found it on your taxi page.I like it! it's agreeably weird. doesn't feel 'finished', but it's nice and clean. the guitar melody has a goofy feel, cos it stands out from the cheesy beat and the block chords . . . like, introduces a fun-house vibe, which you might want to emphasize . . . and then the guitar noodling sounds like the piece is getting crazier. fun.

Yeah, I can hear some catchy bits in there!Maybe thin some notes out and keep it simple. There are some neat little riffs in there.Keep tappin' that neck!

Its a bit of fun to learn how to do things like neck taps at 43. I think it should be an intentionally cheesy track, but really well done when I finish. If anyone knows old NRBQ or The Good Rats, you'll know what kind of a vibe I mean by cheesy. Whether that means my guitar or someone else's is yet to be seen. A ton of work ahead, but no one said to can it, so I'll keep it around and play with it

It's quirky allright! Anne, I LOVE NRBQ!!!!!!! I used to be in a band that opened for these guys a bunch in some small "roahouse" type bars in the mid-Atlantic. There have been very few live bar bands that came close to being this good . . . . here's a good one, you'll like it -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-s8JFTt-vo

Thanks - like I said, its a rough work tape. I just wanted to get the rough idea down before I forgot. I know it needs TONS of work, but just wanted to see if anyone would like the quirkiness of it. Thanks everyone! No further feedback is needed at this point.
