Westerburg Like?

Post by billg » Thu Nov 27, 2008 5:24 am

Here's a song I finished last night for the dispatch ala "Someone I Once Knew" by Paul Westerburg. I'm thinking now that I may have the bass and drums a little too loud but the deadline is tommorow and it's time to get ready for the Gaunce feast so it's gonna have to fly as is. The verses in the song are really just an "excuse" to get to the chorus which I figure is all they'd use anyway. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!http://www.billgaunce.com/song/99

Bill,Drums are a bit hot. Mostly the snare and toms. Hihat is a bit swishy. I actually cant really discern the kick in the mix. Guitars and bass have a good mix to me. I really like the panning youve done. Vocals sit really well in the mix too. Nothing is overly loud but the kit is a little too upfront. Still haveing trouble picking out the kick.If you have time maybe just an eq and level fix on the kit. The rest of the mix is nice in my monitors.Happy thanksgiving to you bro.M~

hey billy, happy thanksgiving as i go mentally through the list of folks i'm thankful to "know."on the tune, hell, have to admit i now have to go look up who westerburg is--no clue, but if i've heard him, i'll know it, duh...ok, good solid tune, though if i have to bitch about something, i'd say the chorus on first and second listen is just a bit "un" gaunce-like, --a bit weak and too much like your verse IMHO. didn't stick out like that red stick on the turkey that says "done." on the other hand, if it's westerburg-like, well then.... but a good effort as always. yeah, let's eat drink and be mary--but i don't have a dress that fits anymore, so scratch the ex-wife's name outta there...all the bestwarren

FWIW, I think this song is fine for the listing - love the sentiment, too.

billg, hell yeah.. I think you NAILED the Westerburg vibe for sure! (God he's written some bad ass tunes hasn't he?)I agree on the snare and hats being hot and not really hearing the kick. But as soon as I heard the drums, bass, and vocals it definitely evoked Westerburg to me! Cool!Oh yeah.. and the solo fit perfectly also.

Bill,um, yeah. As Patrick has already said. You f*cking nailed Westerburg on this tune. The guitar sound, vocal styling, the loose hats. If I had to make a suggestion, I'd say the tempo could come up a notch or two, but if this track doesn't get forwarded...
