Thanks for posting the update, Mark. I couldn't A/B compare, but I think it's an improvement. To me the drums still sound too antiseptic. I think you could dirty them up without losing your desired goal of "cohesive and clear." If you don't want to use an amp sim plug-in on them, you could do some compression on the stereo drum buss and maybe add some room ambience. I think EZ Drummer has overhead and/or room mics on the mixing board; you could experiment with that a little, if you haven't already. It's just sounding a little close-mic'd to me and it's most evident at the very beginning of the song when the drum kit is more exposed. If you want, you can e-mail me a snippet of the stereo drum track (first 30 seconds?) and I can experiment with the sound a little. Just a thought.Vince

Hey Vince...I think I misunderstood your first suggestions. Yes, I backed way off the Room and Overhead settings on EZ Drummer because, once compressed, they tend to give an unnatural sibilance to the cymbals. But I think I could change that fairly easily, now that I know what you mean. I thought you felt they should be more of a mono sound...I'll widen it up a bit. Thanks for the offer! But I'm sort of determined to learn how to get there myself...or at least, after asking for directions a lot.

mark ... you're getting plenty of help from some folks that seem to have a pretty good grip on what you're needing to do - so I won't even bother to try to elaborate, I think you're moving it on well according to the advice and what you're obviously hearing yourself ...but I will say - you're doing this well. and you sound very very comfortable. I'm not too familiar with your original catalog besides what I've already heard and commented on but I must say, this style really fits you. consider that in your focus. I believe you're a roots rocker all the way.
Gave up guilt when I left the ol' school girl uniform behind. You know, cute little skirts and knee socks, nuns and rulers and all that.

Thanks cj! You believe correctly, as far as my background is concerned. One of the typical comments I get when I post something original is that it sounds retro. But the thing is, I really AM retro...I'm 47, but I was the youngest by nine years of a family of five, and my older brothers and sisters were all avidly buying the albums of the 60's...by the 70's, so was I. So this stuff is just where I come from. The trick for me is to snap out of it when necessary...that's the harder nut to crack.Cheers, yer curmudgeonly bloke!-mk

damn man,VERY well done--love the bassline in the acoustic uplift, which is JUST what the dr. ordered IMHO!! it's now clear and so integral! don't know what else you can do for this, it sounds splendid--i know some may have a problem with the drums, but i find them just "there"and doing their job-- the purists might have something else to say, and that's cool. i think you're done...the best,wh
