Light My Way - rap/rock?
I always loved Tom Petty's song, "Here Comes My Girl," in which he sort of speaks the verse and sings the chorus. This is my early attempt--sort of a pre-demo--at something similar. I welcome any and all comments and specificially am curious to hear if you think this song is worth pursuing in this vein. Pitchable? Placeable? Thanks for your time!Vince-----------------------http://www.broadjam.com/transmit/index. ... -----Light My WaySometimes I walk around like I don’t know where I’m goin’Every turn a dead end or nowhere I should beThese days I wish you were right hereShowing me the right path, leading meSo light my wayLight my wayLight my waySo I can see

This reminds me more of "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins.I think the song is worth continuing. You have a great start. But only offering up :45 seconds doesn't leave much room to talk about anything.I think your chorus (if that is what it was), sounds too much like the chorus in your other song, "All In A Daze." The talking section did not bother me. That style has its place, although I think used throughout too many songs on an album, it may loose its luster. One song like that wouldn't be a bad addition to an album, and it would surely help break up the songs. You have a good start. Let me know when you have the whole song up for review and I will go in depth a bit further. But as of right now, continue. Good start. I would work on the chorus a bit, because as is, its too much like your other song. IMHO.You have a clean sound man, from the two songs I've heard so far. Keep going!

Hey Vince:Just my opinion here. This is pretty good. The recording is fine for Film/TV in my opinion but I'd still want to work the mix further.Hard to tell in 45 seconds if this could get placed. I'd say I'd have to hear the whole song - and again - it would be subjective as to where/what it would be placed for - but based on what I've heard so far I think it probably could be placed based on the melody. The title's pretty good - not great. Lyrics are good for 45 seconds of listening - I can relate, but they are a bit predictable.Definitely not rap despite the spoken words for the first verse. Rock, perhaps, but closer to pop/rock.keep going!

Howdy Vince!i think the production is good on this song...i get more of a country vibe with it...how about followingthe more of the country route?this is just my thought but...i bet if you added a little countrystyle orchestration..hmm maybe fiddle?

Thanks geoff. I got that comment from somebody else--"could be country." I think I could pull off the fiddle, but I'm always hesitant to try that genre on the production side as the expectation for what that market expects to hear is so specific and I, apparently, have too much "jazz" in my bones.Vince

Hey Vince!I really dig the music on this one. And, while I think the vocal has some promise, make sure to keep a separate track of just the music and pitch it around to tv/film listings. I think you'll get a lot of forwards with it! As for the vocals, yeah you could try building a country tune... but just remember that the bar at Taxi is pretty damn high for contemporary listings. I would stick with whatever style you feel most comfortable in, but the feel of the music definitely has crossover potential. The spoken word is fine for a one off -- Shawn Mullins can get away with more -- but the verse needs to find a melody all its own. This song does have promise Vince. Have fun in the construction of it.
