Come Home Blue (Seeking Input)

Post by kitz » Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:05 pm

Hi Ya'll, Would appreciate some feedback on this tune:http://www.taximusic.com/stream/158038/ ... KitzHere's the listing: ADULT CONTEMPORARY SONGS in the wide range of Michael Bolton, Barbara Streissand, Seal, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Whitney Houston, Josh Groban, Celine Dion, etc. are wanted by an established Music Publisher in Los Angeles. This company specializes in Film/TV and has signed & secured placements for many TAXI members. While the stylistic approach can be widely varied, they'll be looking for original songs that have a "timeless" quality and overall tone - no covers, please. Lyrics should be universal enough as to apply to a variety of situations/scenes/characters. Performances and the sound quality must be excellent (solid demo recordings are okay as long as the quality is there). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Lyrics:Come Home BlueCome home BlueWhen the sunlight is fading My heart will be true And whatever you doThere's a moonglow arisin'Reminds me of you Come home BlueStars that fallKeep me a wishin'That maybe you'll callAnd we'll dance 'til JuneBy the light of a silvery Sailin' home rising blue moonMany many many miles grow between usI can picture shinin' eyes and your smile'Til the day when mighty winds Blow to bring us Back together againWe've known all the whileThat forever will doWhen you come home BlueWildflowers bloom In the garden they play While they grow up too soonTender tears - all trueTrace the face of your AngelsTil you come home BlueMany many many miles grow between usI can picture shinin' eyes and your smile'Til the day when mighty winds Blow to bring us Back together againWe've known all the whileThat forever will doWhen you come home Sing me BlueAll the songs you rememberIn their color and hueAnd whatever you doKnow that I will be waitingWhen you come home BlueCome home Blue

Sounds like a bluegrass song to me. TEMPO this way up, add some more chicken picking and keep the three part harmonies. I'd pitch it that way. To me it's not an adult contemp song at all.Try a mix that way. Dale

This is lovely. I really like the block harmony on "come home blue".But....I'd have to agree, this doesn't strike me as a Celine, Josh, Barbra, or Whitney tune. It's got a folk feel, maybe singer/songwriter, possibly even trad. country, if you phrased the lyrics differently. Could even be international, cos the fiddle and mandolin give it an Irish quality (but maybe that's just me)

Some good points above about the genre (I'm bad at pegging stuff). I like the song, and the production is nice. You can always do the custom critique thing, and specifically ask them to help you direct the song. I've only done that a few times, but the detail in the critique was amazing.Just my $0.02...love the voice and harmony.

Hi Kitz,If you get this reviewed later, please share. It's a very pretty and sincere song. I wasn't completely sold on the woodwind. I think something else a little more expressive like a fiddle, harmonica or squeezebox could deepen the emotion of the song.Thank you for sharing your song.Best regards,Al Di Cicco

Thanks Al,Will let you know what happens. I like your idea bout the harmonica or squeeze. I think I've got a fiddle in there in a few spots.Kitz

Yeah, it is too folksy for Adult Contemp. Like the melody and the feel of it though.Dean

I agree with the above comments and I'll add that I feel the harmonies are a bit overdone. You have such a fine voice, that's all I wanted to hear. When you sing your own harmonies, the soundscape becomes muddy. Either have another singer sing them, (I can sing) or leave them out. Just trying to help here.BTW there's a new listing for folk where this might place better, or else some kind of country listing, but it ain't Michael Bolton. HTH, Wig

Thanks Wig,I've been trying to find a female to sing the lead but no luck yet. I agree that it would be better to have others sing the harmonies but out here in the boondocks it's a bit of a tall order. I have a friend with a great high voice but he's a carpenter who stays very busy. I had another tune I wanted for this listing but haven't had time to finish production so out of frustration I threw this one in. I know it was not the best idea I've had but then I haven't been able to work out all the brain farts that seem to be part of my repertoire. Don't know if you are offering but would love to hear other's voices on my tunes.Kitz
