New Pop/Country/Folk Song
Hey guys. I just wrote and recorded this song the other day and I'm curious what you think of it. I am thinking about submitting it to the listing TAXI # S081209AM It's called "Good Morning Princess"http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... 21953"Good Morning Princess"By Andrew Scott Wills - ©2008Good morning princess,How did you rest?Did you dream of a castle?Did I scale the wall?Does it disappoint you?To wake to this shack?Do you wish your man,Had a crown for a hat?I want to show you how rich you are,With my lips,I want to teach you my adoration,With my finger tips,Good evening princess,That's a lovely dress,You'd love to attend a ball,Or a royal affair,But we're going downtown,To grab some wings,Do you wish you had,The more finer things?

Re: New Pop/Country/Folk Song
I like your voice! It has a very soothing effect. I think you have to concentrate a bit on the mix, the drums are very in the middle and the guitars are panned to the left and right. I think you should pan the guitars better, maybe double and pan each guitar to left and right, now some of the guitars are to the left and some to the right. You should use the same effects (reverb) on the guitars and the drums. You have to tighten up your guitar playing a bit as well, it's not always in sync with the drums. As well as your voice doubles are a bit off key here and there. Just want to give these tips to you because the screeners will def. here this as well. Liked your guitar playing as well, the drums sounded perhaps a little too drum machinis..Maybe lift the second chorus with some organ? I think you would benefit off composing a middle part between the second verse and the last chorus as well. If you want to fade the song, make the fade longer, The song just suddenly ended very abrupt.

Re: New Pop/Country/Folk Song
Alex, Thank you so much for the feedback. I am not yet a recording pro as you can tell. I am in the middle of getting a new system because my current one is so old I can't even import these new drum loop wav. files I bought. I will definitely tighten up everything up and i think I might add some keyboard like you said. I'll post my revision and see what you say. Also, how much compression should I use for most stuff on Taxi?Andy

Drums seem a bit loose in places. I have that problem too. Try to lock up the bass and bass drum and then fit in the snare and hat. Nice lyric. Vocal backup on "lips" and "teach you my adoration" seem a bit pitchy. Keep at it. Nice song.Kitz

Re: New Pop/Country/Folk Song
I think this song could stand on it's own without any bass/drums etc. if it needed to. I think it would be better to leave them out than to have them the way they are now. There are a lot of listings (and a lot of placements!) for just acoustic stuff w/ vocals. Just another option for you to think about-

Re: New Pop/Country/Folk Song
Thank you everyone for your wisdom and encouragement. I am in the middle of recording new guitar tracks and I might try dropping the drums/bass out all together. I totally agree with the drum comment, they sound so cheezy. I'm going to also punch some vocal changes where I went off pitch during the chorus.Your guys rock, thanks for the feedback it's priceless.Andy

Re: New Pop/Country/Folk Song
Well, compression is used for 2 things. The one thing is on separate channels, I use it if I want a better and equal sound on my voice. The second is if you want the song mastered. When you are finished with your song, bounce it and use some compression on the whole song along with some EQ and maybe a little reverb, that will tighten up the sound image.
