My First Rock Song

Post by lboogie77 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 11:50 am

Hey Everybody,I'm testing the waters for this Rock Instrmtl stuff.I've never mixed rock drums or guitars, or any Rock stuff.Aside from the guitars, the overall mix is jacked up, I knowWent a bit crazy with the limiter...But as for idea and direction, let me know...Any pointers for these picky distortion guitars?Track is Rokcable on my taxi pagewww.taxi.com/lkeysThanks77

They seem too bright to give that friendly vibe your breazy tune seems to be reaching for. Same thing for the lead guitart starting at 01:47: that's so bright sounding I don't feel the heart energy that this riff could/should invoke.I'll also admit that I lose my connection with the song when the strings hit those unnaturally high notes at 0:19 and 1:26. So again, if you tweak those elements it would be easier to feel the mood and go from there. -Allen

Hey Allen,Thanks for the input. I will tweak those guitars and get those strings back in line. As far as I know, the strings should be in range, they are real string samples not a synth patch. Prob need some warming up too. Thanks Again77

This sounds like it should be great, as in, good ideas, good arrangement, good playing....but honestly, at first I couldn't figure out what the rhythm guitar was--it comes across as a sheet of sound. Overall the mix has a trebley quality, which robs the whole tune of impact. I think some bottom would really help out.

I like the groove here...even with the high frequencies coming through too strong on my small sony headphones. My first impression is a little more low-end crunch on the guitars, and a TINY bit less of the strings. The elements work well for me, it's just a mix preference for rock. I take it this is for the sports instrumental listings? Please post the exact listing so we can help you dial it in to the specific target.A good start...I like the concept! At first I thought it just a shade too slow for the listing I remember, but maybe it'll be perfect for the one you chose.Your snare is coming through with a crisp snap...that's good for rock, IMHO.Just my $0.02 of course....a good tune that's on it's way, methinks.

Thanks everyone for your insight and input.I have since remixed the tune, and still tweaking it.As far as a listing, I was leaning toward the CCM arena.Your posts are invaluable, thank you for being gracious, but I think you all cut me too much slack. Thanks again, 77

Hey lboogie77!Yuuppp! Too much treble & not enough bottom, IMHO. I can hear the bass, but I really can't hear it like I should. Everything needs a little bottom treatment, to make it really have some impact. Just my $.02.I-468
