Dirty Bird 2008 - The 1998 Rerecord
Hello fellow songwriters and sports fans. I had written and recorded this song back in 1998 as a NFL Atlanta Falcon fight song. Back then everyone in this town was Dirty Bird dancing. No music. Just bird dancing. A local radio station held a contest for Falcon fight songs and I wrote this one. Well the station lost my tape so the tune never made it on air and the Falcons went on to get creamed in the Super Bowl. But I always liked the tune so on the ten year anniversary of the tune I decided to rerecord it. Back then I was still recording on a Tascam four track casette tape multitrack recorder. Since I usually record with a drum machine I decided to head over to a friends studio and hire a drummer. The drums are recorded on a Pro tools system using 10 tracks and a dozen or so microphones at 24 bit - 48k sample. I took those tracks and put them on my Cakewalk system and added one bass track, six guitar tracks and 12 vocal tracks.I ended up changing a few things around naturally. I like the rerecord and will try to shop it around town once complete. There are four songs of interest at my hosted page. All critiques wanted.http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?userid=13338 The original: Dirty Bird2008 rerecord: Dirty Bird 20082008 rerecord instruments only: Dirty Bird 2008_Instruments Only2008 rerecord vocals only: Dirty Bird 2008_Vocs OnlyDirty Bird - Carlos Mario Gomez - Chris Haynes SpeedyGeez Studios 1998 - 2008Offense - Defense - Offense - DefenseOffense - Defense - Defense - OffenseSit down here enjoy the ride.New thriller the Falcons have arrived.Hold on tight don't you let me go.Sticks moving lets enjoy the show. One touchdown a game-win-breaking drive. He could go left-slant-in alive.Prevent D the ball is in the sky.Reception my oh my my.These birds are running wild. You'd better hold on to your child. You'd better not-not-not-not look away.Sit down and make some noise. We're gonna run some with the boys. We're gonna soften up their D then pass all day.Runnin' Jumpin'Throwin' Catchin' Laughin'Runnin' Jumpin' Laughin' Dancin' baybeeThrowin' Catchin' Laughin' Dancin' baybeeDoesn't matter if we run or throw.Cause we'll take it where we want to go.I can drive a truck up through that hole. These are things you should already know.Who runs this show?D - I - R - T - YMess with me. Dude . . . this song is . . . well, endless. It's well-done! But there are so many sections I don't know what to think. The vocals don't suck! The performances sound good, altho the drums do sound a bit like they're in another room. I think it needs to be cut way back, content-wise--I think it risks tune-out. This is about a football team, right? Take a couple of the strongest ideas and RUN 'em!

Hey Carlos.... cool song.... some good ideas in there but way too long.... I'll be honest.... I lost interest at the end there.....I would do 3.00, 2.00 and 1.00 edits.... with and without lyrics.... think of the clips they play in stadiums.... Bigger drum sound.... again think stadium music...I would love to hear any changes...Peace, Geo

Thanks for your comments. Good suggestions.I like the idea of chunking it up with the best parts into segments. I think I'll give that a shot this weekend. I did spend last weekend revamping the tune trying to get a better sound that seems to elude me. So off to the laboratory I went with dramatic eq changes per track and using pre bussing instead of post bussing. I dumped the duplicate vocal tracks and added some special effects, crowd cheers, whistle blowing etc. Those changes made a big difference in sound quality and gives me more opportunities to sound like the bigs. The drums sound pretty good but of course the drummer would like the snare to rise above the vocs. I would probably have to take a eq knife to the vocs to make more room for the snare or drop the voc an extra db. I may have lost a little objectivity on voc levels. Please listen to the revised version and give advise on voc and snare levels.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true

Hello Carlos, finally tonight my computer is letting me listen to songs from the Taxi site . . . although at random. Go figure.I think this song has good ideas and a lot of good parts but like some of the others have said . . . maybe there's too many parts. It's a little tough to stay focused on it.As far as the snare volume goes, I think it could use a little more "pop". Not sure if it's an eq or a volume thing.

Thanks for taking the time Bill. Much appreciated. Back to the Bat-Lab with the Bat-Knife. I'll chunk it up into smaller segments with similiar grooves together and put more energy into the snare.
